deep breath in and i come alive, it's a feeling i'll remember for the rest of my life
~ ~ ~ ~

Even in light of that part of herself having been lost for years only just recently being restored to the fae woman, as with all things born anew, it would take time for her soul to heal. Like a sapling that emerges from the ashes left behind by the flames of utter devastation long since passed, everything surrounding the small glimmer of genuine hope daring to grow amidst the destruction which had befallen what had once been strong and flourishing, there was still so so much that would has not yet returned to her. Before everything, before the heartbreak and the end of her old life, she'd been someone entirely different. Once, while she would have been perhaps just as oblivious to the stranger she was quickly approaching much to her unawareness, there would have been bewilderment and an excitement at the idea of seeing something unlike anything she would find within her small rural hometown. She would have been distracted by the seemingly endless line of fancy boutiques and extinguished cafes. Eyes of clear summer skies would have been aglitter like stars in the night sky as she would behold the immaculately maintained wooden benches on each side of the cobblestoned streets not too unlike the ones that she'd seen in movies taking place in England or some other far-away world. She would have had her breath taken away as she drank in the elegance and upper-class ambiance that enveloped the Northern district of the city.

Before her entire world had changed, swallowed by the nightmares which had haunted her every night for what felt like an eternity, robbing her of the peace she'd so desperately wanted, the smile upon her blush-colored lips would have been big and bright. It was almost... hard for the blue-eyed blonde to remember a time in her past where she could have smiled as brightly as the sun to anyone who might dare to meet her gaze. She vaguely remembers that her smile had been carefree and friendly, her heart entirely open to the idea of meeting someone new and perhaps finding a new friend on an afternoon like this one. Now, although her smile was hardly the mask that she'd grown so accustomed to wearing, ingenuine yet still needed so that she could hide beneath the weak walls she'd built around her soul for fear that others would see the anguish wreaking havoc upon a soul who had once been almost fearless and ready to embrace what might come her way, it still did not shine nearly as bright as it had once upon a time. Although it was no longer half-hearted, nothing more than an attempt to keep others figuratively at arm's length, still it was missing that carefree abandon. It was wistful, one that bespoke of someone who was lost in thought, though soft her soft baby blue gaze didn't dare to give away more than that. To the outside world, Lani appeared to be nothing more than someone trying to make the most of her day.

This much was certainly true, but the last thing the blue-eyed blonde had been expecting was to let herself become so lost within her thoughts that she would quite literally almost bump into a perfect stranger. While the old Lani would have been just as apologetic to the man, there was a timidness dancing within her gaze that wouldn't have existed three years ago...'Get yourself together, Lani'... Attempting to straighten herself as she takes a measured step back to give him back his personal space she'd foolishly invaded, she feels that ever so subtle blush coloring fair-skinned cheeks in sheepish embarrassment as a slender hand moves to brush the wayward strand of elegantly curled golden-blonde hair from her face. This was usually the moment when any other stranger would have just stared blankly at her and moved around the fae woman as though she'd been only a minor inconvenience or perhaps allow for mild irritation to reach their eyes before hastily warning her to be more aware of herself and her surroundings and moving away to continue along on their decided path to where they needed or wanted to be. Lani is almost certain that these two scenarios were the most likely outcomes, so many walking the city streets often absorbed in their own worlds that they hardly seemed keen on anything else, although there was still the frightfully small chance that he might kindly accept her apology before simply moving on.

When the man does none of these things, instead offering her a warm and rather charismatic smile, there is a flicker of surprise across her face as she looks up into his chocolate gaze. His voice was just as warm and smooth as his eyes, a distinguished accent coloring his words as they brushed metaphorically against her delicately pointed ears. It was strange for her to encounter someone so seemingly kind, and while it was often that the fae woman would be nervous around an unfamiliar soul, there was something about this fae man that seems to touch ever so softly upon the subtle curiosity awakened from the depths of her still-healing soul. She is very much aware of the way he looks at her, a glimmer of intrigue illuminating those rich molten milk chocolate depths, but unlike others who've unnerved her with such a look, she simply returns it to him. Especially when he goes on to apologize to her, going on to explain his reason for having lingered there...'Sea legs?...' She looks a little more closely at the stranger before her, noticing for the first time his sun-kissed skin. His laughter is wholehearted and, in a strange way, feeling almost contagious, his jovial disposition and bright smile, allowing Lani to feel a bit more comfortable with him - and herself. Truthfully, outside of meeting another fae man recently by the name of Gideon, the fae woman can hardly remember a time when she'd been this comfortable with a stranger.

His words come again, confirming what she'd initially been rather certain of. Lani's smile blossoms upon blush-colored lips a little more, though still they hold that soft shyness to them."Well, it's certainly easy to notice that you're not from anywhere around here", she replies, her voice soft and casual as she acknowledges his statement. His own expression seems to shift into subtle embarrassment now, though at what, the fae woman isn't entirely sure. His continues on and baby blue eyes blink from beneath long, dark lashes at him as he explains the expression she sees in him now, the fae woman empathizing with him completely. Well, minus the part of having to adjust to another language. She can hardly help herself from allowing that soft smile of hers to grow as he expresses warmth and welcome to their rather abrupt meeting, flashing another smile, a chuckle falling into the afternoon air around them."I know a thing or two about being nervous around new faces and new places", she remarks, warmth finding her casual words now. The fae man seems to gather himself now, his well-built frame relaxed as he introduces himself."Beylani Rose, but you can call me Lani. It's nice to meet you, Sergio", she replies in kind, extending a slender hand towards him now. Seeing the crowd around them beginning to thicken, she takes a step closer to the large glass window of the café they're standing in front of.

"So, how long have you been in the city?", she asks casually, hopeful that he didn't find her question too prying.
