The bed creaked with the added weight as he shifted his legs around and rested on his side in the blacked out room. Despite the darkness he could see quite well, the faint shine that emitted from Yejide was illuminating the white down comforter and the rest of the furniture with an ethereal glow. Then again she wasn't of this earth, so no surprise there. Ezra watched her for a moment, studying his sister's face while she slept. She seemed more peaceful than she had been, said she connected with an old friend, plus with him here she wasn't looking over her shoulder as often. With a finger he reached out and poked at her forehead, the light emitting from her body flickering slightly as she stirred. Giving a crinkle of her nose she didn't even open her eyes, "the sun has barely been up..." the sleepiness that engulfed her voice was evident, she rolled away from him and of course Ezra scooted forward.
"But I'm so bored." Propping himself up on one elbow and taking a strand of her darkly dyed hair in his hands he made a disapproving sound, "you look better blonde." As per usual the baby of the family had to voice his own opinion. Yejide swatted at his hand, "go away, Ezra, go explore or something." Her voice became muffled as she buried her face into a pillow, and with an exasperated sigh Ezra rolled onto his back and stared at her ceiling. Straining his eyes in the room he could faintly make out the small gold and silver looking markings above him and all over the room, "I don't know anyone else but you, and you won't introduce me to your friend yet, what else am I supposed to do?" He was greeted by silence but he could hear her breathing wasn't exactly, turning his head Ezra stared at his sister and then rolled back and wrapped an arm around her.
Being still for the moment he could feel her heart, how cool her skin was since she had only just been sleeping, and then her hand as it wrapped around his and squeezed lightly. "Sorry." Her voice drifted off and he gave a sheepish smile into her hair before pressing a kiss to the back of her head and clamoring out. She knew she had nothing to be sorry for, and he knew she was only indulging him. "There's a ward on the doors and windows." Ezra then moved out of the room shutting the door quietly behind him and walking down the hall to the stairs.
Ezra practically bounded down them, wanting his energy to disappear. Already he had taken a run around the neighborhood and through the park, he had cooked and eaten breakfast, finished setting up his own bedroom on the main floor, and he had run some studies; which had taken most of the morning. It was fun but damn if those symbols didn't get all mixed up in his head. Not something that could be helped. Popping on some leather slip on sneakers he opened up the Uber app on his phone and put in the information he needed. As he dashed around the house grabbing his keys and wallet, checking his light brown hair in the mirror and brushing his teeth Ezra found himself satisfied by the time the car pulled up.
Stepping out in rolled khakis and a short sleeve chambray button up he felt confident as he opened the back car door and slid in. And blessedly the car ride went smoothly, only passing a little small talk here and there. Ezra knew he wanted to hit the North side of town, he just wasn't totally sure where to go and had popped in a random address of a bar with some good reviews. Someplace called The Voodoo Room, and although he was dressed for the summer and dressed on the nice side he doubted it would be right for the atmosphere. Oh well! He wanted a good stiff drink this afternoon and to get a good look at this place. He'd been in the area for just short of a week. Studying and settling in was done with! He'd gone out to dinner at a decent place by his sister's home but ultimately he needed more.
As the car pulled up to the sidewalk and parked Ezra transferred the money to the other guy's phone and hopped out, leaving a significant tip. He'd arrived safely with some good suggestions. On the outside the bar looked like rest of the victorian styled buildings versus the newer ones that were covered in glass, even though he kept up with technology he did prefer the older buildings appearance-wise. He opened the door and stepped in, taking in the atmosphere along with the other patrons who were seated for lunch or having a drink while discussing business. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the hostess about to step up to him but waved a hand towards the bar indicating he didn't need her assistance.
Taking a seat Ezra opened one of the standing menus and looked at the specialties, he's not really into the whole mixed drink thing. But he decided to go simple and when the on duty bartender came over he ordered a whiskey on the rocks. Feeling the cool drink in his hand he leaned onto the bar and took a sip, savoring the taste, his eyes looking up and down the bar. As the bartender dropped a lunch menu in front of him Ezra let his eyes linger only slightly, honestly it was fancy menu, not typical bar food. He needed a foodie friend, or his brother Grane. Or hell- just some goddamn company.
