South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Lannie Smith
I close my eyes and dream that I'm awake

A chill rushed up her spine as she watched a shadow cast down upon her notebook. "Hu-?" Lannie quietly gasped as she whipped her head back at neck-breaking speed to see what presence lurked behind her. Yet she did not expect what was behind her to be so... charming. He was a chiseled man with striking features. Someone who undoubtedly turned heads when walking past others. Lannie was always bewildered at how some people just lucked out with genetics like this man. "No fair," she mused.

She hadn't had much socialization past her high school years. It's not that she was incompetent or socially inept. It was a matter of her being surrounded by the same familiar faces and personalities she had known most of her life and watching the newer relationships slowly evaporate when she decided to open up to people. Well, Lannie didn't blame them for ghosting though. Since the illness, she witnessed the one person whom she loved dearly slowly fade from her life. There were no grudges or animosity held from it. She understood the heartache and stress that came with her episodes. Frankly, she never fathomed how her parents could keep loving her unconditionally. God only knows how they could do it.

Locking eyes with the man who stood directly above her, she listened as he casually apologized. She saw the man lean a little closer in to observe the messy sketch in her notebook. "O-oh, this?" she laughed awkwardly. "It's nothing, i-it's a bit sloppy," her face flushed a shade of rose, and she found herself nervously tugging on her earlobe, eyeing her drawing and critiquing the nuances of the sketched figure. "I just draw casually, you know?" she quickly added.

Not wanting the attention focused on her or the sketch of the man in her notebook any longer, she abruptly closed it and stood up to face the stranger. Slightly bowing, she asked what his name was. Before he had a chance to reply she swiftly stated, "My name is Lannie, Lannie Smith." "Oh dummy, why did I just give my full name to a stranger? What if he's a weirdo? What if he looks me up on social media or something?" her brows furrowed a bit as she started to fantasize these absurd assumptions. "Okay, don't be ridiculous Lannie. You don't know the guy. Give him a chance to show he's O.K." she proceeded to cross her arms and imperceptibly to herself, start nodding her head in agreeance to her own thoughts.

Her withdrawn existence was truly starting to show with the continued conversation. "Have I always been this awkward?" Lannie mulled over the idea. "Wait, yes, yes I have," she outwardly sighed, knowing that she couldn't sugar coat the obvious truth from herself. Her mood jolted back up, "Oh well," she thought, suddenly amused with herself for being so painfully clumsy.

Her personality to say the least was all over the place. Although she meant all the good in the world, she couldn't grasp normalcy. That was one thing that seemed to set her apart from every other human being in the world. If only there were people who understood what it was like having to hide themselves in order to protect other people. Someone who she could relate to. It was a hope that seemed to good to be true.
