South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Where you invest your love, you invest your life; [Sorcha]

It's not the long walk home that will change this heart, but the welcome I receive after the restart.

It had been many weeks since the vampire Mayor of Sacrosanct found his way back to the Southside of town. It was a civic engagement, of course, which drew him here tonight. A local were-entrepreneur had expanded his meat import/export business here, after receiving some small business loans and tax breaks from the city. Dareios was here for the ribbon cutting on the were-horse-man's new manufacturing plant. He was adding an additional 150 supernatural employees to his business operation, thanks to the local government's investment. While many in the news media seemed to label the simple small business announcements as low hanging fruit these days, Dareios was delighted to participate in his 13th ribbon cutting ceremony this year. Sacrosanct's little economy was booming. The city was making the list of dozens of buzzworthy online "top 10 places to buy a house" or the"best 20 cities for inclusivity" viral rankings thanks to some of the mayor's equality work in the supernatural realm. He couldn't deny that it felt good to be recognized.

The ceremony took place just after dark, of course. Dareios gave a few brief remarks, posed with the business owner for a few photos, and cut the blood red ribbon. When his cohort of handlers - his publicist, secretary, security detail and other governmental officials - tried to coax him back into the car to take him home to Anacosta Heights, he waved them off. Dareios had some other personal business to attend to. But it hardly required taxpayer resources to tail him to.

The vampire opted to walk among the Southside shops and restaurants a bit, and would take the train back to the Northside of town, or at least that's what he told his security detail. It wan't all a lie. Dareios indeed planned to visit at least one Southside shop while he was here. But his plan wasn't just to meander outside in the fresh air to clear his head. Oh no. There was a very specific new dark arts store that recently opened he was intent on seeing for himself.

Sorcha had a way of wafting into his life and then seemingly disappearing. She was quite good at it. It seemed every time the vampire got just a bit closer to her, she'd stage a masterful disappearing act, and a year or two would go by before she'd resurface in town again. But if Sorcha thought she could return to Sacrosanct and he wouldn't find her, well, she'd be amiss. His analytics folks had alerts set up just for her activity, and just in the last few weeks, she started "pinging" all over the city. Sorcha the witch had returned.

Dareios hardly wished any ill will on the witch. It was quite the contrary. He had always been intrigued by her, and he still was, hence his interest in stopping by her new storefront this evening. At first, the witch seemed to offer a lucrative arrangement for some of his more hush-hush business opportunities. But the more he got to know her, the more curious he became. And if we're being honest now, Dareios could use a distraction. The vampire hadn't heard from Miya, the sweet, gullible human he could have had his way with in the comfort of his own home a few weeks ago, but chose not to, since she drunkenly stumbled into his house. He assumed at this point he'd probably never hear from the clever and naive doctor in town again.

Dareios opened the door to the quaint shop, and a simper of a smile crossed his lips when the bell jingled as it closed behind him. He moved silently from shelf to shelf, admiring Sorcha's potions and creations. But out of the corner of his eye, he kept a vigilant look out for the shopkeeper herself.
