East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

bring me back to life

I hate the sudden distance between us even though we're standing less than a foot apart. There's a turmoil going on inside me as I fight to be close to him and yet not touch him at the same time but I know I'm aching to do just that. I hate seeing the hurt on his handsome features when he looks at me, as if the relief I feel is a flashing neon sign on my forehead. I know he's only trying to comfort me and I want to do the same for him. He tells me that I'm not that bad, that he's done much worse and I'm sure now that I have an idea of how old he is that he probably has seen and done a lot in his lifetime. When I ask if the ones he killed haunt him, he seems perplexed at first before he says no and asks why should it. I scowl and tilt my head. "Don't you grieve the lives they once had before the moment you decided you had to kill them? Their dreams and aspirations, their troubling pasts. It doesn't feel wrong, almost like you were playing God, deciding who gets to live and who gets to die? Who has that right? Who gets to decide that taking a life is okay?"

It's nice to hear a little bit of his past, even if only in bits and pieces. Macedonia is a clue if nothing else. I know he's right that they probably would have taken his life in a minute when they tried to conquer his city but how does it make it any better that he took theirs? I'm not trying to blame him for what he did or say he was wrong to do it. It's more like I'm using him to understand what I did and how I feel about it. It's not even really about him. He continues to speak of the era he grew up in, a time when men were expected to join the wars of the nations for things they believed in strong enough to die for if it was asked of them. I nod to let him know I believe him. Why shouldn't I? He has no reason to lie to me and I've read enough about past times to know that he tells the truth. I shake my head. "I'm not saying you should. I know times were different and I know it was considered honorable. I'm just....I guess I'm just trying to say that I do feel haunted from what I did. I know they would have killed me in a second given the chance but by killing them, I feel dirty. I feel like I took everything away from them and I jsut wish I could give it all back."

I listen and nod as he explains that I did what had to be done and I know he's right. At his sudden question, I blink up at him for a minute. I'm lost for a second, wondering if he's asking if any of the pack remain that need to be taken care of or if he's turning all business on me now, asking if there's anything else we need to discuss before I dismiss myself. It feels weird that we ended up at this place when we were just discussing what we are and what we can be. Finally I shake my head. "No, I think it's over. No one is coming after me." I pause for a minute, straightening and coming closer to him. I look up into his eyes, trying to read his expression for a moment before I lean up on my tip toes, reaching one hand behind his head to tangle in his hair as I pull his lips down to mine. The kiss is slow but no less passionate, a longing caress of my lips on his.
