East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Ain't life just awful strange

I must be

If Arlo couldn't tell, Buffy wasn't big on sharing. Especially about her disdain for vampires.

There was a vampire in her life once. It was early in her dark hunter career, when she still felt squeamish about murder, be it a supernatural or a human or a bug. The night she met him wasn't all that different from this one. She had followed him into a nightclub and then out into an alley. She watched him feed on a human girl and then brutally murder her, and when it came time to end him, she froze.

It didn't take long for Buffy to feel at ease in his company. Buffy had been so naive. She knew some vampires possessed the ability of affinity manipulation, but when it was turned against her, her logic and strength had been rendered useless. Buffy transformed into Jason's puppet, a dote that undressed for him, that killed for him at his will, that became his walking food bank. Internally, she was in complete distress. She struggled to find the strength to break free from his control. At one point, she even tried to kill herself. Her attempt, of course, was blocked by him.

Eventually the dark hunter hit her breaking point. She woke one morning determined to end the slavery in which she was living under. And she killed him in his sleep.

But she couldn't get the year of her life back that she'd spent in his captivity. Nor could she erase the memories of what she had done.

No one close to her knew much about it. Leslie knew enough that something had gone terribly awry. She had met him on several occasions and knew him only as Gia's boyfriend, never as a manipulative and controlling vampire.

Buffy missed out on so much time with their mother. By the time her true self resurfaced, her mother was deathly ill. All she could do then was take care of her until she took her last breathe. Then Leslie went off to school. So Buffy poured herself into her work in an effort to get back into the good graces of the Council. She rented out her childhood home because she couldn't stand living there alone, and moved into a shitty efficiency apartment in the back yard.

She vowed to never get close to another vampire again.

It seemed as though the rain refused to give up. Buffy squinted through the drizzle at the red and blue flickering lights on the cop cars a few blocks away. They must have found that dead vampire, or what was left of him, in the alley. The dark hunter merely rolled her eyes as she remembered the girl who had been with him.

It seemed the tension was easing between them. Buffy was silently thankful for that, but still curious about his motives. Either way, she saw him as an ally, for now. They were working toward the same goal, after all. Arlo. She committed his name to memory. When he offered to team up, Buffy's gaze drifted from the streets below and she turned to look at him again. She studied him hard, something in her gut churning tight, telling her to resist the urge to trust him, but she shook it off. Buffy nodded to him in response. "I'm sure you'll figure out how to find me."

When he continued to speak, Buffy's demeanor temporarily turned sour. Her lips pursed together and her eyebrows furrowed, but a smirk eventually appeared across her lips. "Yeah, well, when you find a dude who wants to bang and not try to kill me after, give him my number."
