East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

BEWARE THE MONSTER

we stopped checking for monsters under our beds,

when we realized they were inside of us all along.

I'd only arrived last night and already I had been summoned. Sort of. I was to meet another Dark Hunter at a cafe on the east side of town at 7am. Most likely to discuss my business here and how long I planned to stay. Same old, same old.

Sitting up in bed, my fingers interlacing through the mess that was my hair. My eyes close, fingers pressing against my skull. I fucking hate being told what to do. But, today, this time, there was no helping it. With a sigh and a heave I get up and walk into the attached motel bathroom. Turning on the shower and waiting for the steam to envelop the small enclosed space. After a few moments, I step beneath the stream. Eyes closed, a groan of pleasure on my lips. I quickly do all the show necessities, before shutting off the water and wrapping my waist in a towel. Damn things were always too small, so I had to walk out with a fist gripping it shut. Not that it mattered, no one else was here.

I pulled on a pair of grey Calvin Klein boxers and dark jeans. A white cotton t-shirt and my familiar, old leather jacket that smelled faintly of smoke. Black combat boots completed the look and without a backward glance I was out the door.

The sky was a myriad of pinks and oranges, casting a warmth to the otherwise dull morning. While staring at the sky, my fingers began turning the ring on my pinky absently. Something I did when I was thinking. There was a voice nagging in the back of my mind to remember something, something I had to do... Oh right! Cafe. Girl. Meeting. FUCK!

Striding away from the Motel, my feet eventually carried me to an old Victorian inspired cafe. I raised a brow, shrugged and entered.

The first thing I noticed was the smell. The rich scent of coffee and the warmth and sweetness of the baked goods. My stomach rumbled appreciatively. Food.

Moving towards the counter, the second thing I noticed was a girl already seated. I could sense the other worldliness about her. The darkness that being 'other' brought. She must be whom I was summoned to meet. I can't say it made me like her any better. Hell. Better get it over with.

I grabbed a chair and sat down next to her. Instantly, a chipper girl was over to take my order. I didn't pay much attention to what she was doing. " Coffee. Black." My mind can't help but add like my soul" to the end of it. Turning in my seat to face my...whatever you wanted to call her. "So. You must be the unfortunate party that got saddled with me." I paused. Assessing her quickly. "Name's Theo." I never told people my full name. No one had spoken it for nearly 90 years. Not since I'd been turned. Blinking, the memory shattering before it had time to form. I waited, wondering what she would be like.

"talk like this."
