East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

He'd never had much luck with women if he was being honest with himself. Sure, he'd dated a few times, even gotten serious a few times. He was even engaged once, but it was all too good to be true. When he got in a relationship, he was honest if nothing else and he always laid all the cards out on the table so everyone knew what was to be expected. He was faithful and he always tried to make his girl feel like a princess, but that wasn't enough for Becca. He always knew that she was attracted to him because of his bad boy attitude. He'd always come off as a rebel, someone who didn't care what anyone else thought. He had just assumed she'd fallen in love with the rest of him after that too. She'd said yes when he dropped on one knee on that fancy yacht he'd rented for the weekend. A romantic weekend for just the two of them, time enough to make sure she'd fallen for him and then when he was sure, he asked her to marry him. And she said yes. he still remembered how happy he'd been that day. Like walking on cloud nine. She was glowing when they got back, excited to tell everyone.

That was five months before he walked in to find her in bed with his buddy Calvin from work. He'd been on and off with a lawn service company, little private gig owned by his buddy Zach. Calvin was the one who drove them to most of the jobs and Taylor had liked him alright, even inviting him over for dinner cause he felt bad for the guy honestly. He always seemed lonely, like he didn't have many friends. There had never been any clue to him and Becca running around behind his back. She was always so reserved around him when Taylor invited him over, stand offish almost and then telling Taylor that he creeped her out a little. So it was the last thing he was expecting. But sure enough he walked in the house and heard giggling from the bedroom. He opened it to find them both naked and well in the throes and his heart stopped cold in his chest. For a moment his hand had twitched, knowing exactly where that Springfield 45 was hidden in the sock drawer just two steps from where he was standing in the bedroom doorway. But then he recalled all the country love songs he'd heard about ending up in jail over an affair and he told himself right then and there that he didn't want to die in jail. And he certainly didn't want to do it over the likes of her.

So he'd turned and walked away without a word. He could hear her calling to him behind his back, calling him baby and begging to let her explain, that it wasn't what he thought. But he didn't want to hear it. He didn't even think to come back for the rest of his clothes and stuff. It didn't matter. None of it did. He threw the ring in the trashcan on his way out and never looked back. Since that day, he'd never been as good with relationships. Every time it started to get serious, he would run. Maybe he was just a coward, afraid of getting hurt again. He was pretty good at running now. That was part of why he found himself in Sacrosanct in the first place. The loan shark breathing down his neck to get paid, the land lord needing his rent money...too many people who knew his name and face and too small of a town. He needed to get away, so that's exactly what he did. Here, he could start over. Get lost. He even considered changing his name but that was too technical. He wouldn't be able to remember it anyway so forget it. He would just have to hope Doug didn't think to look here.

He hardly paid attention to anyone who walked in behind him, too absorbed already in the dancers and getting lost in his own thoughts as he finished off his shot of tequila and debated on whether to get another or a mixed drink to settle his mood. There was a mixture of men and women at the burlesque, he noticed. Of course, far more men than women, and he had to wonder as to the sexuality of most of the women present since they seemed to be fawning over the dancers just as much as most of the men. But why else would someone end up in a place like this? It was like a high class bar with entertainment. His eyes continued to sweep the place, pausing momentarily when he saw a woman being harassed by a drunk. He knew better than to underestimate a woman but he also didn't want to just leave her alone to deal with it. Especially since it seemed the man wasn't getting the hint any time soon. He could hear her heavily accented voice practically dripping with disgust as he leaned toward her. Taylor scowled, his brow arching. About the time the man drew her in closer, Taylor was on his feet and moving up behind the woman, his eyes narrowing threateningly as he stopped behind her. "I believe the woman asked you to remove your hands. You should do as she says." His voice was low and calm, too calm, some would say.

The man leered at him, curling his lip. "Fuck you. Go find another whore to bother. She's mine." That's what pushed Taylor over the edge. His eyes darkened. "Never use that word again. It's distasteful." The man laughed and grabbed a bottle then, swinging it at Taylor. He brought up his arm just in time, the glass breaking and splintering in his skin. He grunted but it only fueled his adrenaline as he dropped his arm only to bring his other hand up, punching the guy right across the jaw. He went down quick, as drunk as he was, flopping on the floor like a fish out of water just as two bouncers appeared seemingly out of nowhere to grab him by the shoulders and escort him out. Another came to grab Taylor's arm and he sighed. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm out. Just, one second." The bouncer gave him an incredulous look as he glanced at the woman, his features more gentle. "You alright?"
