East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

TRYING NOT TO WASTE MY TIME

He remembers when it had just been him and his mom, so long ago. One of his first memories had been back when he was around three, not able to recall the exact age he had been. His mom had been in a good place then, they pair hadn't had much moneyâ€"but at that age, what child knows about finances, his mother was his world, so is Benji's amber eyes, he had everything he ever needed. They were walking, the woman who was his life took small steps to allow her young son to be able to keep up. They were walking in the park near their house. Clutched in one of Benji's grimy little hand was a small bag of bread crumbs as he toddled along. In the other, he held the soft hand of his mom. A big, yet still crooked smile perched on his lips as a small spring breeze ushered forth through his surprisingly large amount of dark locks that were gaining length due to his mom's reluctance to give him a haircut. On his feet are brand new red chucks, little skinny jeans, and a red t-shirt that says 'future prince charming' on it. As the mother and son pair near the pond, he breaks free of her grip running clumsily towards the gathering of hungry ducks. "Don't go in the water, Benji," comes the loving voice that could only belong to his mom. Then he remembers turning back to look at her, she was smiling, her bright blue eyes showed only love, his own of amber were wide with innocence and youth as he blew a kiss back to her, a silent promise to love her forever.

Benjamin remembers those icy blue eyes that rivaled the clearest blue sky, he can picture them clear as day, even though he has not seen them in a very long time. And when this girl looks at him, he makes eye contact with her for the first time, he is almost startled to see the eyes of his mother looking back at him.

But she laughs, and though it is sweet and airy, it is not like the laugh of his mom, she had honked like a goose when she laughed, which always made him chuckle in return. He's thankful that she breaks the similarities between herself and his mom, because if they had the same laugh, he probably would have been severely weirded out. "Brooding?" He questions, eyes narrowing for a moment before issuing a slight shrug of his shoulder, brushing the comment off as someone would a leaf that had fallen on their shoulder. But then she says such things suggest potentials for greatness and an eyebrow arches upwards at this comment. "I hope it suggests a 4.0 this semester," he says, humor dry as a barren desert. He looks down at her, though he isn't that much taller, and once more he finds her bold in her statements, something he was not used to, yet was all at the same time. Caroline had been bold. She had offered him to live with her, she had fought battles for him when it seemed no one else would. She was the epitome of bold and brash. But, he had grown up wit Caroline. Most of the girls he had dated on the other hand, hadn't been so bold. He had dated the girl next door and he had dated the popular snob that thought being with him would piss of her parents, and she wanted to feel like a rebel. But she hadn't been bold, she had been an idiot. Now the girl next door, that had been a far better experience for him. She had been meek, shy even, but in the end, she wanted a house and kids and Benji wasn't ready for that sort of commitment. There was a part of him that longed to grow wayward, to be reckless. And as he looks down at Elain, amber eyes seeming to not blink as much as they should, he feels that reckless nature pricking at the base of his skull.

She nods.
He's surprised.

"I don't mind," he says with a casual tilt of his head. And in truth, he didn't mind, he was simply taken a back. Not many girls around here would be so fond of the idea of slumming it on the bus with an almost complete stranger. Yet, here Elain was almost giddy with his invite. He turns, following her out into the chilly afternoon as the wind pushes against his face and a shiver runs up his spine, almost shocked by the coldness that was autumn here in Sacrosanct. Suddenly, a particularly strong gust rushes by, grabbing with it a lone piece of paper from Elain. Quick, athlete reflexes reach out and grab it, instantly bringing it back to the girl. "Whoa, almost lost this," he says as he hands the piece of paper back to her, eyes instinctively going to the writings on the paper before he quickly glances away, not wanting Elain to think he was reading what could be private writing. "Sorry," he mutters quickly before adhering his gaze away from her.

She asks him what classes he is taking, but before he can even answer she is rattling off a whole slew of them, talking a mile a minute. Amber eyes widen, curious to know how someone could actually say that many words in such a short amount of time. Pausing, just a moment, as if wanting to absorb just a second of silence that seemed hard to come by since Elain introduced herself to him (though he cannot help but find her constant chatter endearing) before answer. "Well, I got kinda a full load," he says, brushing his hand against his hair, peeling fire amber eyes away from her to glance at the sky a moment before returning his fire-storm eyes back to her. "Chemistry, a lab to go with it, Calc II, Spanish, then some stupid classes that I just need to take," he says with a role of his eyes. He wants to laugh thinking about himself taking a drama class. There would be no way in hell he would ever be caught in an acting class. He wasn't the type to go up in front of everyone and pour emotions out, even if it was a character. Now, he could go and demonstrate how to a problem or even balance a complicated equation. "What about you?" he asks, curious. "Drama? English? History? All of the above?" He says, attempting to mimic her enthusiasm in good humor, complete with a fake excited smile on his lips. Amber eyes then quickly grow serious again after his little joke, though ghosts of laughter dance behind them.

The bus that will take them to higher education arrives just as they reach the stop. Benjamin steps on first and without even thinking pays for Elain. "I got you," he says as he turns looking for a pair of seats. When he spies two beside each other he turns once more. Dark locks wind blow, eyes the color of a fire storm as wild as always, despite his calm nature. "So," he states, he drawls for just a moment, charming without meaning to be, though perhaps it is more just the mystery that surrounds him. "Window or aisle?"
