East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

This particular morning, Emmy had taken a break from her search for Alex's family. It had been several months since she had summoned the tornado that had taken his life. It had been the same several months that she had come to Sacrosanct in the hopes that she could find his family. She didn't know his last name, never cared to. He was her everything and it didn't matter what his last name was. At one point, Emmy would have married the man. But now she regretted having not learned of his last name. Because even now, she could only go from home to home asking if they had a son named Alex. It was a long and tedious process, but it was all she had to go on. She would find his family eventually...even if it took her many more months to search every single residence in the area.

As the sun finally rose over Sacrosanct, Emmy left the shelter of the abandoned building she had been staying at and frequented the public pool where she could at least get herself a fresh shower and change into a clean pair of clothes. After she was presentable, she left the pool and headed towards town.

Clasped in her hand was a cello case...the only real possession she cared for more than anything. She had been playing the instrument since she was in junior high school and had become quite good at it. She wasn't good enough to be in a symphony, but she was able to carry a tune as well as sing along with her music if she choose to.

Among the shops on the east end was a corner of the city where many local musicians and artists set up shop to show off their skills in the hopes that they may bring home enough extra money to put food in their bellies. While her cello playing had never earned her enough to get her own apartment, it did pay for her meals, her trips to the laundromat, and any other necessities that she might need.

Settling in on the bench near a fountain, she opened the instrument case which held a sign indicating that tips were appreciated. She got herself ready, poised her bow along the strings, and began to play. The music was an intricate piece those spoke of hardships and triumph. It had slow moments and fast, those that required expertise skill and those that were simply pleasant to listen to.

After awhile, Emmy noticed that the clouds were beginning to roll in and she knew that soon, she would have to abandon her playing for the day. She could not risk her instrument getting wet and ruining the strings. She didn't have extra money to fix the damage the water might cause. And so, she decided it was best to get her instrument home before the rain even began. Once the instrument was laid in the case, she closed it, latching the claps. When she stood up, she nearly stumbled on a young woman walking past her. She yelped lightly. "Oh my! I'm so sorry. I didn't see you." She felt a blush color her cheeks as she smiled apologetically at the fancy dressed woman. She could not help but wonder what it might be like to live in such luxury.
