Oliver Burton
Perhaps Oliver should have thought about how this whole scenario would be for a human, a human that may not be used to this kind of terrifying violence. She seemed calm, almost eerily so. She was probably in shock, but rational Oliver would be painfully aware of such things. But he was too far gone, the adrenaline surged within his veins, pumped by that heart that moves at a accelerated pace, the change was so close he could taste it. The blood sent the carnivore in a frenzy and she was so frail he could shatter her. So painfully human. Most humans had no idea just how fragile they actually were in comparison to the beasts that walk amongst them. Monsters like him.
Perhaps he was more a monster than he had really chosen to believe. How else could he look at this scene, could be undisturbed by it? Yet, he wasn't that far gone that he could just turn his back on the human. She clings to him as though he is her savior and in all actuality, he could have very well been her end. The petite woman could not hide that concern for him and yet she should have reserved it all for herself. She claimed she was far from death, but did she know she suffered more than she felt at this exact moment. She didn't know if she was going to need a blood transfusion or that there wasn't a crack within her head. She nearly pouts at him and he merely peers down at her with his stern gaze. He couldn't afford anything else. Was it really his duty to force her to go to the hospital if she was so foolishly persistent against the idea? The woman could barely stand on her own.
But then she reached up to his face with a tenderness that even made that inner feral energy take pause. His jaw clenched as he focused on keeping his cool, so he didn't have her life on his conscience.
That very touch was a comfort, one he needed but hardly deserved. It was enough to take a foothold to control. Focus that energy on something he could control to make sure the young woman survived, at least another day. She shifted that concern back to him, he didn't look at her when he spoke.. "I am fine." He nearly snapped that inner waging war made his temper short. She hardly deserved this fate, hardly deserve his attitude.
He was hardly aware of the thoughts that dance within her mind, the way it wanders. His only concern is getting her to safety, to get out of here before a hunter would lay eyes on this bloody scene. One look at him and the small woman was enough to give him a guilty sentence. Oliver could practically feel her tense as his dark nutmeg gaze peers down at her in his arms. She was so small, he could scoop her up in his arms and hardly feel the strain. "God woman, you are so stubborn." His expelled in one breath his English accent growing stronger in duress. He drew in a breath, another breath where it was laced with blood that he could taste on his tongue, reminding him that he wasn't quite grounded. That breath it was nothing more than a hiss. There were not many who dared to defy him and here this petite human had larger gall than the men he made cower in the business room. He gave her that same hardened stare and she still defied him! He knows he could make her, he knew he could sling her over his shoulder and drag her helpless body into emergency and she would not be able to escape. Not when she was covered in gore and suffering from blood loss. He would wager she couldn't stand on her own without stumbling.
That was when the feisty little thing snapped at him. Actually snapped, but the words were sharp and laced with truth. She was right. He should have just let her use his phone, he had already thought that mere moments before. Even still, he couldn't hide the guilt that flashed behind his eyes. Yes, perhaps this was his fault. He didn't want this to happen to her, her words may be laced with fire and her stubbornness record-breaking, but she didn't deserve to be mauled by a vampire. An apology fell from her lips, it was surprising, it actually made him look at her in that thoughtful way. Even more guilt. He didn't like this feeling. "No you were right.." He admitted almost softly.
But that tenderness was all but fleeting. He was determined to get her medical care. Any sensible creature would see this. He pulled out his phone making the proper arrangements to get the two out of here and where she belonged. If he really thought about it.. Stepping foot in a hospital covered in blood without a wound, bringing in a wounded young woman. There would be far too many questions. She dug her fingers into his arm, as if in protest. The glare she gave him made him pause. She was upset with him, it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that. He wasn't totally oblivious to woman. What did she want him to do? This was maddening.
She was maddening!
She denied the hospital once more and he could feel that dominant rage roar within him. "But you can barely stand, let alone walk." He sighed, not knowing what to do in that moment. Consider her wishes and risk it or force her. He still holds her firmly, so she could stand. The petite woman claimed she wasn't bleeding anymore. Again, rejecting his common sense. She was so stubborn! He frowned, examining the wound on her head. There wasn't any more blood, but it was still wet, slick with it.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't sling you over my shoulder march you into emerg myself." His stern, iron gaze laid its full weight. They seemed to say this better be damn good, convince me. Stubborn, god she was so stubborn. But she had rights and to force her would probably lead to him losing control again or cuffs. She was making this far more complicated than it needed to be. What made her so defiant? What made her unable to simply let him take care of her in a way that he knew how. Why did he feel this need to take care of her in the first place? She reminded him of a little-wounded lamb, so small and fragile. Even still he was the beast with jowls that could take her far quicker than she could even register.
"If you even pass out for a second, you better believe I will not hesitate to take you, no matter what your wishes are. " The Englishman promised. They had barely made it anywhere and it wouldn't take long for his driver to find them. If it was home she wanted so badly, she would have it. He tried his best, for the sake of this human to calm himself. To tame the beast within him, the bear that wanted so badly to be free from its confines.
