The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

audette rousseau
The ebony chains that bound her legs were unrelenting in their hold, the twisting and turning of her frame only further coaxed them tighter. It was a fact she near instantly regretted at the mere sight of the monstrous creature that rushed towards her with mouth parted and sharpened fangs. It was a vampire! She would fall prey to a member of the undead! Her whole frame tensed as he rushed towards her, the girl almost preparing herself for that collision of his body into her much smaller one and the fight that would surely come as a result. Audette, after all, had little intention of simply dying in the grungy corner of some alley between two businesses she had hardly bothered to give a second glance to! That impact, however, never came. Quite on the contrary, it was the sudden glistening of a blade beneath the pale light of the moon that grasped her attention. Her chocolate brown eyes glanced up with a vague sense of wonder before the vampire's own blood began to spill from that now gasping orifice. Those veins and arteries were cut with a swift blow, the vampire's head sent flying and as a result, his very blood sprayed across the petite girl like a veritable fountain.
The sheer ruthlessness of it caught her entirely off guard as if her mind was simply incapable of grasping what those rich, chocolate eyes saw. She was inattentive, at that moment, as her own affinity spilled forth. Her very skin seemed to emit a soft, lovely, white hue. It bit and snapped at the shadows that threatened to engulf her, instead surrounding the French girl its sweet caress of light. That very luminousness so strove to protect her, ineffective though it was in its efforts. Her eyes, however, still remained trained on the body that kneeled in front of her, unmoving in the position he had met his end. She hardly anticipated for the foot of the hunter to knock his body over, much less the way the man suddenly lunged towards her, as if she was next on that list of victims. She shrank away from him, pressing her figure further into the wall behind her, her own light shining with remarkable brilliance as it's perceived threat moved ever closer. The demanding tone to his voice prompted little more than a shaky response as the girl admitted her species, the very admission of which only seemed to further the disgruntlement upon his features.
She stared at him as he so intently inspected her, the wetness on her cheek caused her hand to shift upwards briefly, smearing the blood on her once pristine flesh. The very presence of it seemed to astonish the ballerina before the hunter's sneer brought her sharply back to reality. In the very depths of her own anxiety and trauma, her native tongue was quick to resurface - the girl almost sluggish to remember that she was not in France any longer. Her soprano voice broke around her assurance that she just wanted to get home, those words trailing off into oblivion as her gaze turned towards her bloodstained hands. The very sight of them caused her eyes to turn glassy with wetness as she rambled on, attempting to appease the Dark Hunter enough to spare her life. That growl upon his lips only prompted a soft gasp from her lips as she tried to keep those tears at bay. "You....you were chasing me and...and...and I didn't know you and..." Her head shook before those apologies began to fall from her lips over and over like the mere repetition of it might somehow convince him of her plea.
Those very sobs began to wrack her frame as her eyes lingered upon her hands. Her tears glistened with that otherworldly light, near glowing as they created trails down her pale cheeks. Those soft whimpers caused her own frame to shake as she tried to get a hold of herself, certain that her tears were hardly helping her cause. She was oblivious of the effect her sobbing seemed to have upon the Dark Hunter, at least, until his hand reached out with sudden indecision. Audette flinched away from that touch. Or, at least, she tried to. With the brick wall behind her and the filled dumpster beside her, there were few places the girl could escape to, leaving her quite at his mercy as his fingers reached out with surprising gentleness to caress her face. Her light seemed to engulf his fingertips as they brushed against her stained cheeks, the very luminosity hardly painful in the slightest as it chased away the shadows that clung to him. The girl remained strikingly still beyond the rising and fall of her chest as she sniffled, struggling to keep those tears from pouring down her cheeks. Her gaze was carefully positioned towards the floor beneath her, fearing a singular glance might be enough to anger him and his deadly sword.
The very uncertainty that laced the man's voice caught Audette off guard. In mere moments he had shifted from irate and domineering to...something far softer. That very transformation within him only left her staring at him as she tried to wipe her tears from her eyes. That sudden request of what she wanted him to do only caused that frown to twist into a small glimpse of confusion before she uttered softly. "I....please...don't kill me? You don't have to see me again. I'll be good, I promise." It seemed a simple enough request really, just let her leave that alleyway and she wouldn't bother him or any of the Hunters ever ever again! She'd be on her best behavior, even if she wasn't quite sure what she had done to elicit his attention in the first place. Was it the jay-walking? Were they just really really strict about sticking to the sidewalks? She could do that, all she had to do first was just...figure out which way home even was and hope she didn't meet any other terrifying creatures along the way.
