East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I know that Raven has made herself sort of my protector and I don't mind in the slightest. I know I'm not a fighter and I'm tired of being scared all the time. I know I should probably look into ways to defend myself but really all I want to do is have fun. It still feels so new, this freedom to do what I want, be who I want. I got so used to my father being over my shoulder all the time. I keep thinking about getting a job and being of some use for Raven, giving back for all she's done for me. I keep wanting to but every time I start to walk to go job hunting, I get distracted by everything else I could be doing. I could be running, I could be stealing those hot dogs, I could be pouncing on that cat, I could be teasing the dog on a leash. So many things and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

She looks at me and seems somber for a moment before she sighs and my brows furrow again in concern. She sounds so sad. I listen attentively to her and scowl a little in puzzlement.

"He does? Doesn't seem like it sometimes."

I think about when he pushes me down and growls at me. He just seems to like my submission most of the time. I smile though to reassure her.

"I'm glad you won't leave me though."

She shrugs her shoulders when I explain that I don't drink the coffee. I sense something like disapproval in her eyes and instinctively, I shrink a little in my seat. Did I say something wrong? She continues to drink her tea while I make a real effort on the bagel. It's almost as good as fresh meat but I don't want to waste something else since I'm not drinking the coffee. I can tell she likes the idea of chasing rabbits but she seems to have something else in mind. I watch as she pulls out some money and tosses it on the table. I scowl slightly. I still don't understand the whole money thing. What's wrong with just eating what you want?

As she nudges her head toward the door, I catch her cue to follow and stand up with a smile, taking one last sniff of my coffee before I hurry after her. I return her smile as we head out. I pause at her question, eyes widening as I btie my lower lip nervously.

"Protect? Like, fighting? I don't know if I can."

I say softly, my gaze on the sidewalk.
