"Dammit, did I miss the turn?" He pulled the Audi over to the side of the road and studied the map again. He was on the east road right? These maps were so confusing now a days. He felt like he'd been relearning everything for the 50 or so odd years since he escaped from that coven. He'd basically become a cave man then he came out into this world of cars and cell phones and color tv and suddenly everything was fresh and new and he just felt OLD. Where had the time gone? However would his little brother survive without him? Troy was the sensitive one who always put on a brave face even when he was terrified, just cause he thought it was what Kit needed to see. But Kit knew better. He stayed tough cause he had to when their father left. All he could think about when he was captive was how he was going to get out and get back to Troy, make sure he knew that his brother didn't leave him like their father did. As time wore, he was sure Troy would hate him by now. He had no idea how much time had gone by but it felt like a whole lifetime since he'd been out in the world. He'd learned to drive a car pretty fast but listening to that stupid Australian accent telling him when to turn got old fast so he gave the GPS away to a young couple on vacation and picked up a map instead. Now he felt like he'd been driving in circles, just trying to pinpoint Troy's next location. He'd been following a dead trail for who knows how long but surely he couldn't keep coming up empty, right? He had to keep trying. His little brother depended on him. As he saw the "Welcome to Sacrosanct sign," he pulled over on the nearest busy street and got out, sighing as he stuck his hands in his pockets and looked around. At least he'd gotten clothes to match the culture around him. Dark wash jeans that were a little on the tight side and a black fitted tshirt made him blend in rather well. He'd forgotten to style his hair today so it laid curly across his forehead. Oh well, he had bigger fish to fry. He hadn't shaved yet in a couple days so he had a five o'clock shadow going on as well. He ran his fingers down his stubbled chin, looking around. His brow lifted as he saw a book store across the street. Perfect! Maybe they'd have a local map so he'll know what's in this town. That should make it easier to pinpoint where Troy might go. Though all he should have to do is check all the local clubs and bars.... He made it across the road after plenty of honking and finally ducked his head into the book store. He instantly felt at ease once the smell of leather binders and moldy paper filled his nostrils. This, he could remember. He used to be quite the book worm, having graduated college a few times during his life span. Troy always found it odd that he liked going back to study different majors but learning new things always fascinated and drove him. Most of the time, you would find him with his nose in a book. He liked doing the research when they were hunting, finding out all he could about certain creatures before they came into contact with them so they were better prepared to take them out. Troy was too impulsive sometimes and Kit worried what trouble he would find himself in if he was hunting without him. He glanced around and found the front desk but no one was standing behind it. Perplexed, he moved down the nearest aisle, only to find himself colliding with a smaller figure. His arm snaked out instinctively to catch the other person. "Oh, I'm so sorry. You'd think I'd know how to walk by now without hitting someone or something." He tried for nonchalant, his lip curling up in a shy smirk before he really looked at the person he'd knocked into. She was beautiful, red hair spilling over her shoulders in waves that shined as the light hit them. Her blue eyes were striking. Before he stared too long and made it awkward, he looked down, the dimple showing in his cheek for a minute as he cleared his throat and took a step back, aware that he was still holding her waist. He pulled his hand away and ran it through his hair, making more curls bounce across his forehead. "Again, I'm really sorry. Just wasn't watching where I was going. Do you happen to know where the desk person is? I need a map." He didn't know if she'd know or not but it felt rude to just say bye after about knocking her down. |
