The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Perhaps that was the problem with all of this. Perhaps because he wasn't born a were, he was having so much trouble adjusting to the were life. If he hadn't been turned, he could have still been happy with Sterling. He could blame Tetradore for fucking up his life, but he didn't. He didn't blame the man, after all the incident had been an accident. Would he have tried to prevent it if he was able to rewrite history: of course.
He listened to her try to explain just why her brother cared for him. It was supposedly some sort of link between himself and Tetradore that bonded the two together for life. Honestly, Henry hadn't really tested that bond before. He knew it existed, how else could Tetradore find him when he didn't want to be found? But what Henry didn't understand was this feeling of a void. He couldn't understand it because he had never felt it before. "I can't say I've lost an alpha before...you forget all of this is new to me." He was still a young were, still learning what the bonds meant. He hadn't really tested too many boundaries. In fact, he tended to shy away from his panther rather than embrace him. It wasn't that he hated that part of himself...he just hated what it had done to the ones he loved. And now, because of his panther, he was losing the one person who meant more to him than life itself. That was the void he now felt. It was that emptiness that he couldn't seem to fill.
He was quiet as she shed some light on her own history, saying how she went dark, staying in her were form until the pain simply vanished. While the idea that the pain could go away was appealing, he didn't want to forget. "I don't want to lose myself to my panther...I can't do that again." When he was a very young were, he had lost himself in his panther form. He had seen what happens when that primal part of his brain took over and honestly, it terrified him. He didn't want to lose himself in that way ever again. "I just want the pain to go away." His words were soft, barely above a whisper. It was unclear if she would even hear them. He wanted the pain to go away...but he didn't want to forget. He loved Sterling. He owed so much to the man. Losing him was devastating, but he wasn't willing to let go of the good memories they had.
But she continued, offering to help him into his feline form. He sighed and shook his head. "I have better control over shifting now. It's never perfect, or easy, but I'm getting better." No longer did he need Tetradore there to pull that panther into his mind. No longer did he need the moon. He was able to shift on his own, but it still terrified him. What if he lost control when no one was around to stop him? He could cause so much pain.
It was her second question that caused him to look back up at her. He took another drink before he let the empty glass clink on the bar top. "No, I've never hunted." It wasn't that Tetradore was keeping him from that part, he simply had no desire to hunt. Hunting was what got him into this mess. Allowing himself to hunt again was absolutely terrifying. "...but hunting got me into this mess..." It was a silent confession, a small truth told to her in confidence. Hunting is what had hurt Sterling and started all of this. Hunting seemed like something he should steer clear of. Perhaps he hadn't been shown how to hunt correctly. In time, he supposed. He just wasn't sure if he was ready.
