East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

we all fall down like toy soldiers

I was getting complacent. I needed something to do and I needed to get out of the apartment. I wasn't used to being confined to a room and four walls, I was used to being on the streets and open air and being able to go where I wished, when I wished. I was ready to hit the street and see what I could cook up.

I was in the mood to have tools back in my hands; the sketchpad and pencils were left back in my room. Instead, I had a different bag with the tools I would need. I was in the mood to cause mischief and feel normal and get comfortable with this place again. It was dusk and there were barely any people on the side street that I chose. Why did people get scarce when the sun went down? For me, it was the best time ever. A lot of things happened after dusk.

I lit a cigarette, letting the flame linger just a bit too long and my thumb run over the flame. It was becoming a habit, I had noticed, ever since Virginia. My fingers ran over the metal of the nearest car, it was an easy target, I could tell by the make and model that it didn't have an alarm, yet new enough to warrant a bit of cash. Or a good joyride at least.

I longed to get my hands into the engine, but first I needed to get it off the street and away from prying eyes. My fingers slid into my bag and pulled out my first item, it was affectionately named a slim jim, a small slight piece of metal I inserted into the side of the drivers side window to jimmy the lock open. It popped and I laughed, it was always satisfying when you heard the initial pop.

I pulled the door open, flipping open the electrical panel and pulling out the three separate wire bundles. I strip the first wire back a good half inch before reaching for the second to do the same. These I twisted together and the lights popped on with a satisfying glow. In the same breath I was already stripping the second set of ignition wires to create a spark which made the car purr to life. I twisted these together and secured them with electrical tape before putting the car into gear and peeling out of the alley.

That probably wasn't a smart move and I should try and stay inconspicuous but I was ready for a good time and if that meant being arrested I was totally okay with it. It wouldn't be the first time.

I drove for a few minutes before pulling into an old garage, I used to work here once upon a time and the shop was open to me and mine at all times. I flipped on the lights, pulled open the garage door and in moments I had the hood popped, some music from the nearest radio and the sound of a drill as I took off the license plate.
