The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

She finally agrees with me, her fingers reaching out to gently caress my jaw. Instead of stiffening at the contact, I feel my face softening, leaning into her touch as I've always seemed to do. My face falters a little when she suddenly seems troubled, telling me now that she can feel her maker sometimes and knows that she's still alive out there somewhere. I scowl, my face darkening at the thought of her maker being anywhere near her. I shake my head, my eyes burning alive with a fire of determination. "She won't touch you. I won't let her." Her next words give me pause, my brow furrowing in puzzlement as she sticks up the man who let her get turned right in front of him. I scowl again, but my features soften as I throw up my hands in defeat. "Fine, I won't touch him, if only for your sake." I gently reach out now, my index finger and thumb moving to cup her delicate jaw as my thumb traces her skin in reassurance. I search for her gaze and hope to hold it as I speak in a soft voice. "But know that I would move hell and earth to keep you from harm, no matter what someone made impossible. For you, it would always be possible." My eyes narrow with determination, finally withdrawing my fingers with a sigh. She steps away, twirling her hair on her finger and I wish I could think of some way to lighten the sudden dense atmosphere. Then she looks up at me, asking if she can give me my gift and let the tree wait and my lips twitch, giving her a smile as I start to nod. She makes me pause as she suddenly looks hesitant and then I understand why. She needs to drive my car. I scoff under my breath and reach in my pocket, dangling the keys in her hand. "You never have to say please to me about anything. For you, nothing is off limits. Especially when you mention gifts." I wink at her playfully, dropping the keys in her hand now as I hold out my arm in an "after you" gesture, my eyes still twinkling with anticipation of what she'll have in store. |
