East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

To reposess a body with which I'd misbehaved

Ain't No Rest for the Wicked

The roof was an elevated surface, allowing the air surrounding it to be thinner and somehow easier for me to breathe. Without an audible sigh of relief did I taste the air, relishing the absence of heaviness that I found oppressing it the hundred or so feet below the edge of the roof top. The only taint to the otherwise still air was the darkness emanating from the fae that stood closer to the edge, his emotion almost tangible as he exhaled the smoke from his lungs. Before my request of a savior in the form of a cigarette, I wordlessly closed the gap between our locations in order to study the man better from within a matter of personal space, regardless of the fact that I could see the outlines of his features through the shadows of the night.

"I was unaware I was greeting the villain instead of the white knight."

Calculated yet soft, my words gave no impression of distaste, though I felt a regal tide of a lack of amusement flood my body. This was a habit I had yet to break, practiced through centuries of use and loyal service of the regality that pretentious behavior afforded me. The amount of time I had spent as a close friend to the crown of my home had trained me, somewhat, to accost others with behavior fit of royalty, though there was no royal blood flowing in my veins. It was, unless you counted the transformation granted to me some odd four hundred years back, that I was born of servant blood. I was nothing until the crown prince of the court had offered me no... He had fulfilled my request to truly join the ranks of he and his family. His mother, the queen, agreed â€" I had been her favorite, despite the amount of daughters she had produced. It was without a doubt did I regard this man as a commoner to some degree, rendering him useless as he provided no 'relief' to the lack of nicotine I endured.

"It would seem, then, that I have no excuse to concern you further, sir."

With those words did I offer him an unemotional stare as my granite colored eyes blinked back a shade of malicious humor, coated in the sweet honeyed tone that fell from my lips, accompanied only by a slight smirk. My features gently contorted mischievously, suggesting to the offending individual that while I did not appreciate being spoken to without respect when I was a complete stranger to him, his lack of chivalry was found humorous â€" to some extent. Instead of offering him any kind of words to accept the apology given to me with the slight of the toe of his boot as he kicked the empty carton of cigarettes towards me in an effort to display the true lack of cigarettes.

"Though I see you care little about the environment. Splendid choice."

I denoted the distance between myself and the edge, following suite before kicking the carton over the edge and carelessly watching it fall haphazardly towards the pavement below with absolutely no regard for the pedestrians minding their own business. They were merely ants, anyway, and while I might have enjoyed watching them at a different place and time. For now? I was considerate enough to kick only the carton, instead of something more harmful like a chair or the patio table nearby.
