East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I've never known someone to be so kind outside of my own kind since coming here so Alexander is a breath of fresh air in a world I'm quickly suffocating in. I know that as a hunter, he should be the last person I turn to for consolation and yet I feel safe with him and that's hard to come by here lately. I've been thinking a lot about so much in my life lately but if there's anything I'm sure about, it's my faith in Alexander. Somehow I know he won't let me down, no matter what he is or his past. He seems so confident in these surroundings with people overwhelming him with orders, os in sync with everything around him. The moment I'm inside the cafe, I'm both hesitant to part the overbearing crowds and eager to start something that doesn't have to do with angry best friends or evil alphas with ulterior motive. Here I just have Alexander and it feels good.

His voice feels oddly pleasant in my ear, reassuring me that I'm going to be just fine. I smile despite my nerves, turning to nod in my own assurance. He seems content to turn his attention to me even though a customer is clearing her throat obnoxiously just a foot ro so away from him. I glance at her sheepishly a few times but my eyes keep getting drawn back to him. As he starts to explain, I take the marker and stare at it as if it has teeth mean to bite, letting the fear in now that the task is put before me but when I look back up at him, I feel my fear slowly seep down into a more tolerable level, something I can accept and push past with the deep breath that falls from my lips. I keep nodding even as I look to the cups as he speaks of them, staring once more at the marker in my hand before I look at him again. "Receipt?" I raise a brow in question.

I swallow heavily but nod my head at his question. "..Right. Not too bad." I repeat back to him, trying to make it sound more confident than I feel that I won't screw this up. My eyes widen again as he starts speaking again. Shorten things? I don't even know if I can say the F word he just used. I nod again though, giving him another small smile. I watch as he writes on a cup and then hands it to me with the order on it. I nod again, swallowing once more as I look up at him. At his question, I bite down on my bottom lip before shaking my head. "No...I think I got it. Thank you." I say softly, my eyes lingering on his a moment more before I hand the cup to the girl he called Sandra and turn back to the crowd. "Um, next?" I say hesitantly, watching as an old man with a cane steps forward. He starts grumbling his order and I have to ask him to repeat it a couple times but he seems more patient than the rest of the crowd so finally I get it all written down and turned over to Sandra.

Over time I start falling into a groove, learning more and more words about coffee and what they're called, sizes and such, and I can actually break a smile by the time the morning rush is starting to simmer down. My hand is cramping and my arms are still shaking with adrenaline but at least I can say I did it. I'm making it through my first day at an actual job. And nothing beats that feeling, not even the way my feet are aching in these shoes.
