This whole relationship thing was a new can of worms for her and she wasn't sure she was prepared for it. She cared about Alexander deeply; that, she knew without a doubt. But But she was only starting to learn how deep his past ran, he had plenty of it after all. He was over 1000 years old so how couldn't he? It was expected but at the same time, she didn't really grasp it until she saw that beautiful creature walk into the cafe like she owned it the other night and spoke to him in a language she didn't know, eyeing Alexander like she could see right through him, like she knew his every deepest, darkest secret. It bothered her a whole lot more than she knew it should. She barely knew him, really. She only knew they shared a strong connection the first day she met him in that bad storm when she went into the cafe for dry sanctuary and he made her a cup of hot chocolate. That same day she found out what he was and it took every bit of courage in her body not to flee that moment. She almost did but his gentle voice calmed her and somehow she found herself trusting him, then later, caring for him.
It was all rather surprising and refreshing at the same time. She remembered how scared she was when she returned to Sacrosanct after running from her former pack and family, thinking he may have found someone else to fill his bed in her absence. She recalled how unnerved she was to find out he could read her thoughts, how she felt so exposed and vulnerable. She was a lot better with it now, even letting him in on purpose sometimes now just to further taunt him. But the way that woman had looked at him, Alexis knew she didn't need powers to see inside his head. It was like she already knew what he was thinking. And Alexis didn't know whether to fear her or hate her for that. She felt like an outsider in that cafe and she'd never felt that before, not there. That was why she chose to get a job there, if not for the bonus of being closer to Alexander. In the cafe, she inhaled the sweet aroma of hot chocolate and coffee and it felt like home to her. Where she belonged. But the minute Anastasia walked into her life, she felt uncapable and inferior. She knew it was probably no fault of Anastasia's more than her own insecurities. Either way, she needed to nip it in the bud for the sake of her relationship.
She'd been walking aimlessly through the rows of books in the local library for what felt like ages. This was her nook when she wasn't at the cafe, her place to think clearly and surround herself with different lives and different stories. By teaching her to read, Raven had opened up a whole new world for her and she could never thank her friend enough for it. Now she could read about Egypt and places over the rainbow. She could read about humans and wild animals alike. Her world was so much bigger between the pages of a good book and today she would immerse herself in yet another new fantasy. Or at least that's what she told herself when she came here. But then she saw the flaming red hair of none other than Anastasia and she pulled up short. She thought about just walking by like she didn't see her but those thoughts kept playing over and over in her head and she knew they weren't going anywhere any time soon. She sighed and moved to put the book back on the shelf that she'd been eying. "Fancy seeing you here, Anastasia." She said in a low voice to keep the librarian at bay.
