It feels like I only go backwards

It was like a piece of meat being thrown into a den of hungry wolves the way every single man in the establishment turned to eye the full-figured woman up and down. Admittedly, it was hard not to look. The woman was beyond what was normally considered beautiful. "I wonder if she's a vampire Ludo thought as he tried to decipher exactly what it was that made her stand out, other than her physical appearance. He just couldn't place his finger on it. The way she strode into the establishment exuded the sense that she knew she was gorgeous, and how little she actually needed any man's opinion to validate her own. Before he made his way over to the table where the attractive woman sat, he noticed how sweet she was with the waiters who were the only one's brave enough to approach her. Well, he supposed it was easy to use their job as an excuse to do so.

He figured it was time to enjoy his scotch elsewhere, as the line at the bar was starting to pile up behind him. Scanning the filled and bustling place, he figured it couldn't hurt to at least try and see if the blonde woman was willing to give up a part of the booths seating to him. Sauntering over in her direction, he watched her flip back her silky hair, crossing her legs as her intense green eyes met his gaze. Ludo asked with a chivalrous smile if he could have the pleasure of sitting with her. To his surprise, she responds in perfect Italian, "I don't mind." "Ah, mi meraviglio di te! (I'm surprised at you!)" Ludo exclaimed, as both his eyebrows raised in complete astonishment. "Does everyone from Italy just decide to come to Sacrosanct?" he pondered. First Azrael, then the king himself, now this lady as well.

Not contemplating the thought much longer he leaned back in his chair a moment in silence. "I'm surprised, it seems a lot of people here know Italian. Where are you from exactly?" After listening to her explain where she was from, she commented on his fine taste in liquors. A wide smile stretched across Ludo's face. "I actually just decided to try this one based upon the bottle. Not usually the smartest idea, eh? Although it was risky, the reward is rather excellent," he joked as he swirled the cup, sloshing the scotch around like a fine wine. Scratching his chin, partially lost in thought again by how connected all of these characters could be from Italy, he saw her reach out her hand to shake. "Scusi (Excuse me), I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Ludovino. Pleasure to meet you." He reached out his hand courteously grasping hers in a firm handshake. "Her hands are so soft," he commented inwardly. With the way she was dressed, he assumed she put a lot of effort into her appearance. There was an aristocratic air that surrounded her, as if she was untouchable. Almost like how back in high school, he was the outcast kid who had admired the most popular girl who was out of everyone's league.

She was very good at flattery. Usually women weren't as straightforward as calling a man handsome upfront. Perhaps she was in the mood for something more than conversation. "Well thank you," he politely replied. "I would say you're rather pretty but, I'm sure you already realize that by how many glances you've gotten," Ludo teased. "You look very well," he nodded, with sincerity in his voice. Their gaze continued to interlock, almost as if they were picking apart every little detail about one another. He noticed how large and bright her pure jade green eyes were contrasted against the jet-black mascara she sported. "So, what brought you here?" Ludo inquired, again leaning back into his chair, now adjusting one leg over the other.

Soon enough, he peered down at his empty glass. Hers seemed to be matching with his. "Shall I get you another drink?" Ludo questioned, pointing to her glass. Watching her expression, he picked up her glass and stated that he'd be right back. Sauntering through the crowd, he waited at the bar for their drinks. "Bzzzzt!" his phone rang. His hand dove into his pocket, rummaging through until he finally caught hold of his cell, lifting it to his chest. "Nice," he whispered with excitement. The income from his most recent job had been worth all the gruesome work. Ludo didn't think he'd ever see that large of a paycheck, but it seemed Sacro kept him busier than Italy.

Holding the Grey Goose martini and scotch, he made his way back to the table with something else in his hand. "I hope you don't mind, I got a tad hungry," he smirked as he placed a small charcuterie board of olives, cheeses, grapes, and cured meat between them. "Feel free to help yourself," he motioned his hand towards the board. "These kinds of things remind me of home," he added, savoring the sourness of the green olives mixed with the creaminess of the goat cheese. Ludo always found himself lost in the moment whenever he ate food. It went beyond just being an Italian, it was a passion of his and every dish he ate he loved to pick apart entirely, to the point where it could be very irritating for anyone within earshot who cared less.

Nevertheless, whether or not he was enjoying food, Ludo was just happy to be out of his apartment conversing with someone. It had been quite some time since he had any social interaction that was not considered business. It was weird transitioning to a place where he felt so isolated as well. There was no friendliness in such a city that Sacro was. It reminded him of New York, when he visited there it was a completely eye-opening experience. Someone could keel over dead there and people would just continue to walk by, no consideration, no concern for one another. Ludo would always ask himself, how could it ever get to that point? Where living was taken so lightly? Yet, Sacrosanct proved the same point that NY did. It appeared as though Vitani was well seasoned on luxuries such as travelling globally. He assumed that Sacro wasn't her first place out of Italy. "So, what made you decide to come to Sacro, of all places?" Ludo asked, leaning in while he grabbed another handful of olives.
