Emmy is not exactly sure what to think about the man, truthfully he looked more like a boy than anything. He was brazen and bold and it irritated Emmy. She had never liked men like him, men that were cocky and thought the world owed them it's undivided attention. Just once Emmy wished that she could attract the sort of man that was kind, pleasant to be around, and just a ray of sunshine. She wasn't asking to meet only these sorts of men, but one every now and then would be lovely.
However, lately she had met the most interesting crowd. First Levi...now this prick. Yes. Prick. That's what she thought of him. She tried to suggest to him that she might be uncomfortable with his presence but he seemed not to get that memo. In fact, he looked rather pleased at the reaction she had given him. It only made her roll her eyes. "You have no tact or manners, do you?" Surely he didn't. If he did, he would have asked nicely to join her meal. In fact, he might have even asked for her name instead of using a nickname.
While he might enjoy nicknames, she could not stand them. Levi had called her Nicole with the intent of that being her nickname. However, how he managed to guess her middle name was still a mystery to her. But this asshole was calling her Bud Light, something she did not appreciate in the slightest. "You never asked for my name. Instead you so rudely choose to use a nickname...one I particularly hate." She listens to his open admission that he likes nicknames and she cannot help the way her eyes roll. "Well, I'm not a fan of nicknames and I would prefer if you didn't use one on me." Now, would she give him her name? Probably not. He didn't seem like the fellow who deserved her name. And even if she did give it to him, she had a feeling he would still call her Bud Light, no matter how many times she might protest.
She asks him exactly why he had interrupted her lunch and his answer doesn't amuse her at all. Did he just ruin everyone's lunch if he had a fleeting thought or question about them? "Perhaps I just like their club sandwiches..." She pauses a moment as she reflects on how to tactfully try to maneuver this conversation in another direction. "That still does not give you the right to ruin my lunch. I like eating alone." Well, that wasn't exactly true. She didn't mind having company...but it was his company that she was questioning.
He gives her the freedom to leave and Emmy pauses for a moment and contemplates taking him up on that offer. And yet, she still did not have her lunch and she could feel the rumble of her belly. Singing in the park with no breakfast had made her quite hungry. And so, she silently decided that she would take her meal to go as soon as it arrived.
But what he says next has her eyes looking up at him, almost through him. He perceives her to be hostile and she shakes her head. "The proper term is defensive. You invited yourself into my meal. What did you expect? Me to just welcome your insults and lack of charm?" Perhaps if he had come up and simply asked to join her, this conversation might have gone a completely different way. Did she regret coming off as defensive to him? No. Not in the least bit.
The waitress finally comes back with her club and glass of water and she immediately takes along drink of her water to cool off. She eyes the Bud Light sitting there and she is ashamed she will waste such a drink. She never wanted it to begin with. Before the waitress can leave, however, she calls out to her. "Excuse me, ma'am. Can I get a to-go box and my check?" She would much rather just pay for her food and exit. However, something told her this stranger was not going to make that easy for her.
