I knew I was reaching, asking Audette to trust me. After all, we had only made it past acquaintances not long ago. What, we'd met twice? And both under less than ideal circumstances. And here we were in a life or death situation and I was asking a bleeding fae to trust me. Yeah, definitely reaching. She watched my fingers as I unclasped my necklace and broke a pallet to get a piece of wood. It had to be obvious on what I was planning, but most fae probably wouldn't have any idea how to actually go about it. Luckily I'd done this a time or two, but Audette didn't know that. Now usually I would have my brother, Troy, as a ready distraction but I had to work with what I had. This had to work. After a few moments of contemplation, the blonde finally gave her confirmation and I let out a breath before nodding at her to be ready. She moved into position just as I did, waiting for that door to burst open, as I knew it would. It was all I could do to move out of the way as the door literally launched across the alley, almost taking me out in the meantime. Luckily I do still have some reflexes from my hunting days and was able to dodge out of the way before repositioning myself to attack the vampire. It was a young vampire or I might not have been so lucky. He was fully distracted by the bleeding fae at the other end of the alley, rushing toward her in what would have been blinding speed, if he didn't have an unwelcome obstacle in his path. When the sole of his foot met the necklace, it started to sizzle and he screamed an unearthly scream. It would have only taken seconds for him to recover and go after Audette though so I had to act now. I rushed in, bringing the stake down at his chest right where I knew his heart would be. It sunk in with effort, but I was using both hands to shove it in as deep as it would go, not wanting to take any chances. I knew the moment it hit the intended target when his blood red eyes went wide right before his body exploded into fire and ash. Letting out a breath of relief, I dusted my hands off on my pants before reaching down for my necklace. That did come in handy sometimes. As I straightened back up, I took in the woman's shocked expression, right before she asked if I was a hunter in another life. I offered a light shrug as I put the necklace in my pocket and walked toward her. "This one, actually. You see, my family was never the traditional kind. We were a family of hunters, fae hunters. Me and my brother have traveled the worlds over, hunting supernatural creatures, anything dark and murderous." Tossing the piece of wood to the side of the alley, I moved to walk to the sidewalk, waiting for her to walk with me. |
