Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
I lean back in the seat, letting him take the wheel as I hold my injured arm to me, my eyes stuck to the roof of the car even as I smell the smoke from the burning dumpster that hit the car. I know he probably shouldn't be driving. He'll be lucky if all he's got is a concussion and even then, he could faint at any moment. I should probably be worried about that but my mind is fuzzy right now. My shoulder's throbbing and my skin is black from the smoke and I can't stop coughing. My back is probably one big bruise from being thrown into the dumpster and I'm majorly pissed at that damn wolf. Next time I'll be ready for it. Next time my knife will do more than just graze her side. I look up when he slows down, believing that we're at his house so my brow lifts in surprise when I see a car wash instead. I glance over at him, watching as he pries his door open and motions for me to follow. I do so, still holding my arm as immobile as possible as he hands the car wash attendent a wad of dollar bills. The guy's face is priceless which brings the ghost of a smirk to my lips as I move toward Kohl. I can see the stress on his face as he moves his sunglasses to his head and runs a hand through his hair. He seems mezmerized by the car wash as it starts to spray all over his burning car but I know there's no washing off most of that. He finally sighs and I stiffen, somehow already knowing that there's going to be talking involved. As he turns to me, my jaw clenches and I slowly turn to him as he begins. He manages one word before he pauses, motioning his hand toward his car as he leans back. The last part of his statement takes me by surprise. I actually blink a few times. When his lip quirks, mine actually mimics the gesture, unable to help myself even under these circumstances. I'm beginning to think maybe he'll keep things light when he starts talking again and this time, he's more serious. He asks me if that was fun and I scowl now, turning to him fully even as I cradle my arm. "It's not about it being fun, Kohl. It never has been. Hunting is what we do, it's in our blood, it's why we're created. We hunt creatures, kill the ones that are a danger to people. We defend the human race. That is our mission. It's not about fun." I won't get into how I usually do find hunting quite fun actually since I think that would only make things worse. My brows furrow as he goes on, asking why we have to go out and hunt. I only grow more puzzled as he gets near the end of his speech, his words pausing and fumbling now as he tries to explain and not explain at the same time. Things he can't replace? When he tells me to forget it, I actually step a little closer, my features softening a little as I let out a slow exhale. "I just want to train you. I just want you to be prepared. You never known when you're going to need it. You know the creatures that kill, most of them target hunters. You know that means you're automatically on a hit list, right?" I raise a brow, letting that sink in before I continue with a shrug. "There's nothing wrong with not hunting. It's just....all I know how to do." I scowl and look down, shuffling my foot as I cough a little again and then flinch a little as I cradle my arm closer. I can still watch him from the corner of my eyes as he runs a hand through his hair again. I can tell he's frustrated. Then he tells me he's never leaving his apartment again. I snort at the last comment about his car. "Not like you can't buy ten more just like it." I mumble. |
