Names were very unique to each individual. Where names came from had been something that Emmy had been interested in for some time. After all, with a name like Emmerson, she had always wondered where her parents had plucked her name from. She understood biblical names: Sarah, David, Joseph, Mary, etc. She even understood historical names like George, Elizabeth, Kathryn, etc. But Emerson. It was not like it had a clear root anywhere. Perhaps her mother had gotten it from a book she had read. But what book? Where did the author get the name? It simply opened up more questions than she had answers to. "I have a sister named Camryn...don't hear that one as often either. I'm not sure what my mom was thinking when she named us." Her eyes softened as she spoke of her mother. She missed her family...but she couldn't forget how they had been so quick to cast her aside when they discovered she had powers. She came from a city who was in denial about the existence of witches and Emmy paid for it every day since she discovered her roots.
The two women talked a little bit about the city and Kathryn mentions that where she came from, it was mostly warm all year around. Emmy chuckled. "You're in for a treat! It gets cold enough to snow here in the winter time. I hope you have a coat!" Emmy had lived in just about every state. With a father in the military, she moved around a lot. She had been exposed to all types of weather and seasons. Strangely enough, her favorite time of year was winter. There was just something magical about walking out of your house to nothing but white. It was peaceful when the whole world was still and covered in snow. Emmy found that was when she liked to go jogging. Despite the cold, it offered her a sense of tranquility that could not be duplicated in any way. It was therapeutic.
Emmy asks what brings her to Sacrosanct, having found that most people had a reason to be here for one reason or another. Some came for work, some came because this place was very accepting of supernatural beings. All different answers, all valid. She nods softly when she said it was time for her to just be on her own. Emmy knew and understood that feeling. While she hadn't quite been ready for her umbilical cord to be cut, she had survived as best she knew how. She liked to think she was doing pretty well for herself.
However, the demeanor of the meeting changed when she was asked why she was here. Should she lie? Kathryn was a complete stranger and perhaps it wasn't right to unload her troubles on the poor soul. She sighed. Emmy never could lie. "An unfortunate circumstance led to the death of my boyfriend. I came here to find his family and tell them." There. That was simple enough without giving out too many details. The truth was far less simple: She had summoned a tornado that collapsed the abandoned building she and Alex had been staying in. Alex had shielded her from the collapsing building and it had cost him his life. Alex' family hadn't been in contact with him for years. It seemed only right that she let them know their son had passed.
