a new world hangs outside the window
beautiful and strange
it must be I've fallen awake
I must be
The sting from her awkward apology began to dissipate as Sebastian looked to her kindly, and genuinely accepted it. Buffy offered him a sheepish grin and nodded her head once to his short, but understanding response. She was grateful that the vampire didn't press the issue further. It was compassionate of him to accept her awkward jumble of words for what it was worth, and move on. But the fact that he chose to react in this way was not lost on the dark hunter. She felt butterflies briefly in her stomach, and this only went to further prove that Sebastian was good, even if he was a vampire at the end of the day.
Buffy breathed a heavy sigh as their conversation chirped on to something much more kosher for them to speak about: Sebastian's lavish, upcoming wedding. She clutched her cup in one hand and took regular swigs of the now lukewarm chalky liquid, until there was nothing left inside. Luckily for her, because when Sebestian revealed how old his soon-to-be husband was, she would have likely spit the earthy beverage out of her mouth in surprise. "Wow." She blurted out, but kept all of her very curious but wildly inappropriate questions that came from this revelation to herself.
"Well, I've got to go, but hey, good luck to you both." She said in closing, her skinny legs searching for the ground beneath her barstool. As she stood, she took a step closer to the vampire, and clapped her hand across his upper arm in a casual, but friendly sort of way. "When the honeymoon period wears off and you're feeling bored, you know where to find me." She said with a short smile. Then the dark hunter removed her hand from his arm and collected her things. She smiled at him once more, lingering at the entry doorway, before turning swiftly on her heels and treading back out into the night air.
Buffy checks her phone for the first time since she was distracted by Sebastian's arrival, to find a dozen new messages from her sister. The last reading, "WTF, where did you go? I know you didn't fall asleep on me."
The dark hunter was quick to type out her next response. "Hey, sorry. But in breaking news, I think I made a friend."
And off she went, with at a slightly more brisk pace than usual, down the sidewalk and deeper into the neighborhood.
