"WHAT IS IT LIKE?" HE WHISPERED
"IT'S LIKE DROWNING. EXCEPT YOU CAN SEE EVERYONE AROUND YOU BREATHING." I REPLIED
There is a darkness in Regan. One that cannot be explained with words. There's no name for it, just this part of her that is empty. As if the puzzle that would make up her being is just missing a piece. A piece so vital -- so bright, that without it, the puzzle just doesn't...look right. It's incomplete in the worst possible way. Like a candle in the darkest corner of the room that yields no light. A broken promise -- a reflection of what might have been.
It's late and the night has brought forth its premonitions of an early winter. The breeze, cool and crisp, winding about her in the shadows. It lifts the thickness of her hair from the nape of her neck, sending the long tendrils billowing around her. With a sigh of release, Regan sheds her clothes, lingering for but a moment as the shift takes hold. The darkness parts around her, the echoes of crunching bone, snapping sinew and the scent of magic lingering in her wake.
The large tiger moves silently, making sure to keep out of sight. Avoiding not just those who should fear her, but also any of the 'other' creatures that might go bump in the night. The forest calls to her. It's silence leeching into the surrounding air. She longs for it. That quiet that city life holds no part of. She's been too long in the crowds, too long surrounding by the endless nattering of nothingness. Their stench clinging to her even now. Regan needs to get away for awhile and that is precisely what she intends to do.
She slips into the shade of the trees, listening to nature cacophony as the breeze played through the leaves. A quite purr slips into her throat, a gentle rumble. Regan wanders forward, meandering as cats do. Simply getting lost in the feel of nature and the sense of freedom it provides. Regan follows the sound of water to a small stream. There, she lowers her head and drinks, ears twitching and extra sense on alert for anyone who might be there. After she's had her fill, the ebony feline strolls into the current, allowing the fresh water to flow endlessly over her dark skin. Her tail lashing playfully as she splashes and charges invisible foes. It had been too long since the feline side of her had been allowed to let loose. Sadly, and to Regan's chagrin, it showed.
