and the stars in their orbits shone pale through the lightof the brighter, colder moon
What had she done? What was she thinking? Nadya could only stand there in the middle of the room, staring at the empty bed and holding a box of her belongings as her body seized up from emotion.
It had started off that morning by driving to her adoptive pack's town, the twins secure in their car seats dozing off in the backseat without any knowledge of how upside down their world was about to become. Normally seeing the Alphas who had taken her in after her own blood family had been destroyed was a happy one; they were just as much her parents so loved them dearly. However, today was tight with tension and uncertainty. Nadya stayed awhile, ensuring the twins things were settled in her old room and that they were fed and down for their afternoon nap. When it came time for her to leave, well that was the hard part. She remembered standing there over the crib watching their delicate features and their chests slowly rise and fall as they slumbered. She had bent down, kissing each on the forehead, and bolted before she could change her mind and bring them back to Sacrosanct. The entire drive back to town her knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel so hard.
Nadya's grip on the box she held was equally as strong, her muscles aching in protest before she blinked back into the present. She set the box down unceremoniously on the floor, clenching and unclenching her hands to get feeling back into them as she looked around the room. It was fully furnished and by the smell of it had been home to the bear at one point though the layer of dust covering everything told her it had been quite some time. She still wasn't quite sure how she felt about having a room right next to her brother and then knowing Tobias was on the other side of Tet's room as well. It seemed that privacy would become a thing of the past. With a soft sigh Nadya pushed open the small window that looked out onto the wide expanse of the ocean allowing the salty breeze to air out the stale room.
Originally Tet had said he would help her move in but some last minute urgent meeting had taken him away. Jackal had been no help in telling Nadya when her brother would be back either and had nearly bitten his head off about being a poor employee and what the hell use was he then. She was on a tight wire already from having just left her children for who knows how long and he had been on the unfortunate receiving end. After having Jackal help her bring up her things from the car she had dismissed him so she could be alone. At first he had been hesitant to help her since the evening hour was quickly approaching and he had been preparing to open the Ark up for the nightly events but one quick glare from Nadya had him grabbing a suitcase from her car. Nadya didn't exactly have a lot of things besides her wardrobe anyways. Most of the things in the apartment outside of her room had belonged to Isolt.
Now, left in peace and with some fresh air, Nadya set to work stripping the bed of its sheets in order to replace hers while her few suitcases lay open and scattered upon the floor.
