West

The western part of the city is often home to the poorer residents. Here there is a grunginess that permeates the town from the graffiti on the once cleaned brick buildings to the broken and unmaintained architecture. Crime runs high within the western half of town, making it the home of supernatural gangs of illicit activities. Such activities are rarely reported, however, and most residents are distrustful of individual's of authorities, and often let the powerful supernatural beings sort things out amongst themselves. Be careful wandering the Western streets after the sun falls.

Hidden within the dark alleyways of the Western Ward, Cull & Pistol is a dim, often smoky bar. With a small variety of bottled and craft beers, Cull & Pistol is a quaint little neighborhood joint. With its no-frills moto, the dingy bar offers little more than liquor, music from an old jukebox, and a few frequently occupied pool tables.

Noah's Ark

Resting upon the harbor, Noah's Ark (known simply as The Ark) is a sleek superyacht known both for its fight rings and recent...renovations, of sorts. With both singles and doubles tournaments to compete in, the title of Ark Champion is hotly contested amongst the Were population. Within the turbulent industrial district lies this club. The warehouse doesn't look like much on the outside but it provides a memorable experience from the state of the art lighting, offbeat Victorian-inspired artwork, comfortable black leather lounges, and the infamous 'black light' room. There is a wide variety of alcohol that lines the shelves of both of the magical and ordinary variety. It is a common stomping ground for the supernatural who want to let loose and dance the night away to the music that floods the establishment. Humans are most welcome if they dare.

He only rolled his eyes at her comment about being flexible, earning him a sarcastic smirk in response. She knew it didnt take much to get under his skin and maybe thats why she enjoyed herself a bit too much. She could tell he was a little worried though, probably more about the Council than her own wellbeing and especially the wellbeing of Kohl but still, lives mattered to a Hunter and thats about all Azrael knew to be. She could feel the subtle tickle of someone in her mind and knew it to be Azrael using his power of truth detection. She had nothing to hide, otherwise she might have scolded him for doubting her. She was known for her silvertongue when she needed it though so on some level, she couldnt blame him. But she wouldn't lie about this, not when Kohl's life was in danger. She let him figure out what he could from that before the other Hunter started to speak. Azrael's anger was almost palpable as he brought up plans for the Council building. She had no idea Viktor wanted to take out the Council. He must have really gotten greedy for power since she left him. Maybe she should have expected it. Nothing was ever enough for him.

Finally she let Azrael in a little, just enough to know what he and the Council were up against. He was only growing more agitated with all the questions, she was sure, so she needed to give him something. Anything that woul help him keep. Kohl safe. So she told him about Viktor and how she was connected to him. She could see the surprise on Azrael's face. She was sure it might surprise a lot of people who knew what kind of person Viktor was but when he first changed her, he had pretended to be a different person. He had her fooled until the day he didnt. She knew Viktors name wasnt a household name, even amongst Hunters. He was great at secret keeping, his own secrets worth countless lives. Everyone was too scared to betray him and he never left loose ends, not before or after her, at least. She alone knew some of his secrets, unless hed changed them since she left. She wouldn't put that past him.

She knew what Viktor was doing was wrong, even if there wasnt an official rule that stated it. Hunters were supposed to only be created when its a last resort, when someone wont survive and its the only way to save them. Using them for you own personal gain was just morally wrong. But then, she knew now that Viktor didn't exactly have morals. Azrael's sudden question had her blinking in surprise. She shook her head before realizing she didn't have a straight answer. "No, at least i dont think he did. Kohl never really talks about when he was changed. I just cant see a coincidence happening like that." She didnt know what shed think if that were ever the case. She knew without a doubt Viktor would stoop that low, to use someone to get to her, but Kohl wouldn't do that. She knew him better than that. He wasnt evil. He loved her. She believed that. She had to. At his next question, she sighed and shook her head again.

"No, Ive been looking for clues but hes very meticulous. This guy is the first lead I've gotten since the photos he sent to Kohl's house. Believe me, my sole mission has been to find him and 'pay him a visit.'" She growled the last words, her hatred for the man obvious. Azrael seemed more and more frustrated the more he found out but she knew it wasn't about her anymore. He was pissed at the situation, at finding out there's a rogue Hunter out there conspiring against the Council. She knew in her heart and soul that Kohl would never go rogue on the Council. He wasnt like that. She could never believe it. Finally Azrael turned to her, telling her to lead the way. She cut her eyes to the other Hunter, as to remind Azrael that he was still there and there was no way she was leaving him. But Azrael apparently already had an answer for that, the man suddenly slamming forward with a grunt that ended in silence. She knew he was dead. She swallowed, but when she looked at Azrael, there was only understanding in her gaze. She knew it was for the best.

She was about to ask if they needed to clean up the body before Azrael said to let Viktor clean it up. She understood that the Hunter probably had something that would link him to Viktor, though she couldnt see Viktor ever being that sloppy. No, the man would probably end up a John Doe. Sighing, she drew on her powers, the knives pulling out of the man with a wet sound before sailing back into her hands. She wiped them on her pants before putting them back in their sheaths. Shed give them a good cleaning later. She wasnt about to leave her knives in a dead body. She wasnt sloppy either. Then she turned and started walking to Kohl's apartment. She felt almost numb even thinking about anything happening to Kohl. She could sense Azrael following and it felt good to know she had backup, even if they weren't exactly friends. Still, she knew Azrael wouldn't allow her to get killed, not while hes there.

Of course she should have known he wasn't done lecturing her yet. She sighed and rolled her eyes at his scolding remarks like she was withholding information all this time on purpose to endanger the Council. She had to raise a brow at the part about asking for help. He should know better than anyone how she felt about asking for help when it came to anything. She had her pride and everyone knew it. She always signed up for solo missions before the Council started putting her on more dangerous missions where she had no choice but to bring backup. She knew he was right about letting the others know. Her shoulders finally slumped a little in defeat. "I didn't know he was a threat to the Council, Azrael, not till now. He's always had his own agenda that had nothing to do with other Hunters. He only wanted certain people dead, usually people in politics or loan sharks that were doing particularly well, the dark alleyway kind of creeps that had a lot of money. He was greedy, always has been.

"I don't know why he's targetting the Council now besides that same greed, the greed for power. Either that or he's being pre-emptive cause he knows its only a matter of time before they find out about him and shut his whole operation down. I didn't think I needed the help. I stayed out of his radar and he didn't give a sign that he even knew I still existed until a few weeks ago." She recalled that horrifying image of finding the envelope after Kohl told her she got mail. She knew what it was before she even opened it. She knew it was her whole world as she knew it crashing down around her. And she knew she'd have to make sacrifices, including the first and only shot of love she'd ever known. She tensed up when she saw the Hunter standing in front of Kohl's apartment. Her paranoia was at an all time high so at first she though it was Viktor's men come to make a move. Her hand twitched toward her knives but then the man turned toward them and a flash of recognition was in his gaze as he looked at Azrael. Her body physically relaxed, but only a little. She was still suspicious of any and all Hunters until Viktor was dead. He had spies everywhere.

At Azrael's question, she shook her head and held out her hand, still wanting to keep some semblence of politeness. "Katarina, but most just call me Kat. Nice to meet you, Michael. Wish it was under better circumstances." She shook his hand before listening as Michael gave Azrael his update on the apartment. She glanced toward the door, apprehensive and more than a little nervous given what happened the last time she was here. She glanced up at the sky, recalling the rainstorm that seemingly came out of nowhere right as she was running off down the street after telling him good bye. Azrael's voice pulled her out of her reverie as she played back the hurt so obvious on Kohl's face. Her heart tore at the very sight. She blinked at Azrael before sighing and nodding. "Yeah, I'm coming." Slowly but surely, she put her and on the railing and went up the steps and into his apartment. The door creaked open under her hand and the first thing she felt upon stepping into the doorway was how utterly empty and alone the apartment seemed.

No maids dusting or tidying the place up, no cook calling out the menu for dinner. Kohl's place was only ever this quiet in the hours around twilight when she'd usually arrive home from work. Otherwise it was always bustling. He must have told the help to stay away from the house or something. Maybe he somehow knew they'd be in danger. He was always smarter than anyone gave him credit for. The thought made her lips twitch with pride. She exhaled, glancing back to make sure Azrael was coming before she headed further into the house. "Are we looking for anything in particular?"
