Rain. She had to ask for rain. Lately the dog days of summer had been a bit too hot for her comfort. Although she was quite tolerable with all season's summer was always the worst one. The sun was out far more than she liked. A gentle summer breeze was difficult to come by. The pads on her paws screamed in agony if she dared to roam the streets around the warehouse district within her lupine form. Being in her furry form was like being in steal plated armor. Being wolf was much easier and much desired. Within this form she didn't have to dress a certain way, walk a particular way, or even talk to complete strangers. Whatever physical scars she attempted to cover up, she didn't have to focus on them when she was in wolf form, and that brought her comfort. Always she did her best to wear clothes with some form of sleeve, but this was summer and wearing sleeves wasn't the smartest thing to do. For some reason if she was somewhere alone someone wanted to strike up a conversation with her, some odd stranger that was attempting to be a bit friendlier. Ever so guarded she would keep her replies clipped short, but enough to seem polite. After all she wasn't raised by wolves- no really they didn't exactly 'raise her,' but she did know her manners! Earlier during the day when the sun was at its highest and even though she was wearing a shirt that held no sleeves, she was far too damn hot. Sitting in the café Alexis had designated as their 'spot' she was sitting in the far corner, farthest from the windows happy to be in her cozy shadowy spot attempting to stay cool when suddenly the air conditioning went out. Befuddled and annoyed she left the café when suddenly the idea of 'dinner' popped into her head. Tonight, if she knew Tobi's routine well, she would have to make him dinner tonight. With the warehouse shut down, there was hardly any food left, but she knew he would be there right on time and pretty upset that she wasn't there with his meal.
Rushing to the nearest shopping center she fought the crowds attempting to buy the raw steaks. Lucky for her the power outage had decided to take out the electricity in the grocery store, which made everyone and their mother lose their minds! Everyone was a little bit angrier and a little bit more unhinged being stuck in a throng of people with no AC running. Trying to move quickly, but still be polite, she slid through the crowd her small frame coming in handy for such things. As she dodged crying kids in their carts pushed by Mother's about to lose it, children screaming for their lost parent, males hoisting up a variety of cool drinks on their shoulder, she managed to find a couple of steaks from the frozen isle. Waiting in line was horrendous until one cashier shouted that purchases had to be done with cash, since the electricity was out, and since she was such a well prepared individual she rushed towards the cashier with the proper amount of cash to purchase the food and hurry home. It was while she was rushing home dark clouds began to form and a heavy thick breeze tossed her curly hair over her exposed scarred shoulder. Blue-grey eyes widen when the scent of rain caught her nose, and she simply stood still when she felt the soft pitter patter of raindrops falling upon her small lithe frame. Then suddenly with a crash of thunder and a flash of lighting the curly-haired woman got doused with cold rain water. Running through the rain with her stakes in the plastic bag, she ran as fast as her two feet could, whirling into a nearby alleyway and changing forms swiftly. She was lucky that the rain made it difficult to see within 5 feet, allowing her wolfish figure to appear like a large dog that had a plastic bag tightly in its jaws.
Reaching the now abandoned warehouse that used to be the Devil's Den, she climbed the fire staircase, leaping into the window that was always opened for her spotted feline friend. Easily shifting back to her flesh she couldn't help but shake her head and upper torso in the manner of what any dog would do. Setting the stakes down on the countertop she reached for the over, ready to set it before she noticed the lights flickering on and off. Looking up at the ceiling warily she moved towards the cabinets taking some candles and lighting them with a match. A bright flash of lightning could be seen through the window in the kitchen, when all of a sudden a roar and crash of thunder seemed to shake the building and make the electricity go out. Standing in the dark of the kitchen a defeated sigh left her lips as she craned her neck in a way to hear the hum of the electricity box trying to come back on. But when it didn't she shook her head in defeat. She wouldn't be able to make Tobi a warm dinner, and really, she had been looking forward to a delicious warm meal. Knowing Tobi wouldn't mind to eat anything raw she grabbed the candles and placed one on the table and two on the countertop for light. Placing the stakes on a plate she moved towards the table and sat down quietly. With nothing else to do she simply waited until she caught the familiar scent of Tobi, and the sound of someone walking along the metal of the staircase. Softly she spoke aloud waiting for his familiar figure to make its appearance in the doorway, the candle light casting darker shadows in the lines of her mauled face.
"Tobi...supper tonight is raw steaks..."
She managed to give the boy a timid simile, hoping raw stakes would be satisfactory.
I'd Rather Feel Pain Then Nothing At All
