She told herself lying low was going to be more fun than this. So why did she find herself out walking the streets in the dead of the night like a junkie looking for a fix? The scream she'd heard earlier rang out again, echoing through the streets and Kat turned toward it, kicking it into high gear as she raced into the darkness and out of the sanctuary offered by the few street lights overhead. Kohl was probably going to let her have it when she got back to the motel room, but was she just supposed to ignore every time she got an urge to help someone? She was a Dark Hunter; it was in her blood. It was supposed to be in his, too, but he seemed downright stubborn when it came to violence. Not her, though. Kat lived for the fight. She felt the burning in her legs and pushed herself more, urging her body to keep up. She needed this as much as she needed the air she breathed. When she turned the corner and found the girl being pushed against the wall by two men, she cursed to herself at her bad luck. Just two muggers trying to make trouble, nothing the police wouldn't be able to handle on a regular basis. But she was already here so why not? Shaking her head, the Hunter sighed and paused a few feet away. "Let her go, one and only warning." She purred the words, almost begging the two guys not to listen. And thankfully for her, they must have gotten the memo because they just looked at each other and leered at her, the one standing guard by the woman he held by the wrist now as the other stepped toward Kat. "Oh, yeah? Then consider me warned." Snickering, the man took another step toward her, obviously thinking her an easy prize as he went to grab for her arm. Bad move. Kat kicked out, hitting his knee and hearing the satisfying crack as it bent backwards. The man howled and fell the ground and the other guy gasped in shock and let go of the woman, who thankfully took off down the alley. Kat glared at him. "So now, what will it be?" Disappointment flashed in her eyes when the guy whimpered and turned on his heels, taking off in the opposite direction. Fuck. She didn't even get to fight. What a drag. Her gaze turned back to the man still howling and rolling around on the ground, holding his knee. Now what? |
