The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I am drawn to her like a moth to the flame. I could no sooner turn away now that I've seen her than I could start breathing again and need it. I know that I can't leave her like this, hurting and it be my fault. I already hurt her when I left and I'm glad I wasn't here to see her fall apart. It would have ripped me in two. I wouldn't have stayed away and in that time, I needed to. I know I lost anyone who could have been tracking me when I escaped but who knows if they had seen me before the night they caught me sneaking around? I can see the different emotions crossing her pallid features and I want so badly to hold her and wash them away. She looks almost as if to speak in the time I pause and I'm sure I'm about to get my ass handed to me but I push forward anyway. She has to know the truth. And so it pours out of me like a waterfall breaking through a dam. Once I start, I can't stop. Her brows furrow and I know it must sound crazy. I don't know how this whole thing started and why they had to choose a red head with blue eyes. It just seems out of this world, almost as if they knew Isolt but I know from what I overheard that they didn't know where this being was or if she even existed yet. All I know is they were persistent about finding her, wherever she could be. They were sending out search parties, scouring the globe. Who knows when they would find Sacrosanct and consequently, Isolt? I don't know if she's the only red haired blue eyed vampire in the world but I didn't want to wait and find out. I had to do something. At her sudden question, I wince without thinking. It's almost like a strike, so much hurt and bitterness in her voice. My brows furrow, watching that single tear slide down her cheek. My lips part and before I can answer, she starts to speak and now it's my turn to blink in befuddlement as she goes through all the different scenarios that ran through her head. The last one makes my eyes go wide in surprise before they narrow as I start to vehemently shake my head. "No...Isolt, no, never..." I whisper the words in comfort even as she draws near. My skin starts to tingle with her close proximity, a side effect that hasn't faded in the time we've spent apart. If anything, it might have intensified. The moment her thumb finds my arm, I feel more human than I ever have before. It's like I should have goose bumps and my breath should be short and inhaled sharply. My heart should be racing out of my chest. I should feel flushed but instead all I can do is stare at her chiseled expression. I wish I had a creative bone in my body and I'd paint it as perfectly as possible so as to keep it forever. At her next words, my palm cups her cheek gently as I look into her eyes. "I would let something, anything happen to me a million times before I let anything happen to you. I will do everything in my power to keep you from them. I will exterminate the magical race if that's what I have to do to keep you safe." I know the words I speak are probably not music to her ears. She may wish to shush me so unwelcome ears shouldn't hear them but my eyes burn with an intense passion, letting her know that I mean every word. I don't care what happens to me; all that matters is her. |
