The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

With one hundred floors and a 125-foot spire, the Starlight Tower rises high above the Sacrosanct skyline. More than just a landmark, the Starlight Tower offers a unique mix of restaurants, shops, and offices spaced throughout the building. Organized into nine verticle zones, each of which features a sky lobby and a light-filled garden atrium which merge the upscale interior with a faux landscaped exterior setting.
I know for a fact that Isolt was a human when we met at the festival. I could smell her rich blood, see the veins in her hands as she held onto that hotdog she adored eating so much. And yet now I don't have that same sensation. In fact, I felt the absence of it like a dead weight the moment I started walking across the street to her. I don't smell her blood. I don't see that fine thrum of skin beneath her jawbone that gives away her jugular's location. Her skin is oddly pale and still. My ears are very keen to things like heartbeats but I only hear one in this vicinity, that of the man trying to entice her. I know even as I talk to him that he was looking for a fix, the kind only a vampire can give. He wanted to feel his life slipping away as fangs drain him of his blood. He wanted to die, and he came to Isolt. I could see everything in my peripheral vision as I stepped to her side, everything from the inner turmoil inside of her, that hunger I've come to know so well in the eyes of the younger vampires that roam the streets of Sacro like cock roaches. I see the movement in her throat as she swallows, like a man thirsting to death in the desert. Her eyes get that unnatural glow as she stares at the man like a piece of meat and I can practically hear him purring with want. What a junkie. He reaches out to touch her and I have to resist the urge to break his arm right now. The only reason I don't lies in the impression on the girl at my side. Somehow I still hold a theory that I can still look like a nice guy to her, even if I can't compulse her as easily as I once did. I'm glad when the man looks at me and draws away, staggering away down the street. I hear her sigh and I can see the audible length in her teeth. She has fangs now. I'm trying to take it all in calmly, even while inside I'm wondering like crazy. How did this happen? Who turned her? Why? She didn't seem the type to get herself into trouble. Where did it go wrong? I can't help but be bothered by the fact that she's now a creature of the night, just like me. Somehow she seemed more right as a human, more natural. But that would make her fairly new since the festival was only, what? A couple weeks ago? So where's her maker? Who's teaching her about the trash who dream of sex with vampires while they feed off of their body? Who's teaching her how to survive? As she looks at me, I see the flicker of recognition in her eyes. I also note that her fangs are retracted. So she does know one trick then. She frowns before speaking but even as she does, a smirk tugs at her lips. I smirk back and nod. "Bingo, you win a prize. What would you like? A stuffed teddy bear or a fattening lollipop?" I watch her smirk widen even as my eyes gleam with humor. Finally I can't help it anymore, my lips drawing down as I sigh and run a hand through my hair. "So, a lot of things have changed since the festival, looks like. Mind telling me how this happened?" I scowl, my brow furrowing. Suddenly I look around, seeming to notice that we're standing outside by the street. I look back at her. "But first, let's get you out of the streets. Come here." I turn and start walking toward the nearest bar, a little hole in the wall but it's mostly quiet, reserved for older people just dropping by for a beer or two before they go home for the rest of the night. I gesture for her to go in and I find us a booth, telling the nearest waiter to bring Blood Baths, the special. I've come in here a few times and found out quick that they cater to the darker sides of town. They carry blood bags in the back room and pour them into glasses, even heating them up in the microwave to give it that 98.6 degree taste that's so close to the real thing. Within minutes, two warm glasses are sitting in front of us and I gesture toward hers with soft concern in my eyes. "Drink it." I know that look and I want her sober before she starts talking. |
