East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Ain't life just awful strange

A new world hangs outside the window
Beautiful and strange
It must be I've fallen awake
I must be

The dark hunter's chest seethed with every passing gasp of an exhale. Her lungs felt like they were on fire from the exertion that set in after the pursuit. Buffy might have been gifted with impressive physical strength when she was turned from her human form, but that didn't mean she didn't have to work to stay in shape. Clearly she wasn't as fit as she thought she was, despite the adrenaline that had fueled her in the chase up until now.

Her expression was hardly as hardened and spiteful as the vampire's was now, but then again, she had him cornered. It was a natural instinct to lash out when captured, and Buffy was smart enough to keep her distance. She stood close enough to pressure him, to warn him she was capable of making a move if he wanted to open that door, but she was still several feet away from him, out of the way enough to give her time to react if he decided to rush upon her.

Buffy didn't know if it was the exhaustion that clouded her judgment or if maybe she was just going soft. But something about the way the this vampire explained the situation seemed, well, genuine. His explanation was entirely unexpected, however, and the dark hunter furrowed her thick eyebrows together as she picked a part his words. "I happen to like tofu, thank you very much." she said in a hoarse tone, the knife still dangling at her fingers. She watched as the vampire began to move in slow and calculated steps. She rose her hand to point the knife directly at him. "That's enough scooting around." She said, staring down its silvery tip at him.

But he kept moving. Buffy took a few steps back, trying to show some allegiance to the promise she offered him and give him some space. But the knife remained in place between their two bodies.

The vampire's speech devolved into some half-hearted attempt to tell her what she'd already got tonight. Buffy grit her teeth and rolled her eyes as he continued to mansplain. She didn't need a vamp telling her what to do or how to handle the situation. "Calm down dude. I'm going to honor my word." She said, stiffly and slowly retracting her arm that held the knife and securing it back into the pocket at the back of her jacket. "I just have one last question for you, then you can continue on in your vigilante justice or whatever the hell it is that motivates you to do this."

Buffy eyes him hard now through the light drizzle, their bodies perhaps the closest they've ever been to one another, and Buffy was now unarmed. "Why? Why do you hate your kind so much?"
