East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

For as long as she could remember, the dream of becoming a well-known and skilled photographer had always been there in the deepest of her passions and aspirations. Sure, at one point when she'd been even younger she might have wanted to do the typical things that so many little girls would proclaim when they were asked that question of what they wanted to be when they grew up. A princess, a veterinarian, an artist, maybe at one point any of these had been her answer to such a query as a young child with an imagination that knew no bounds and promised her that anything was possible so long as she tried hard enough. Some would ask her when it was that she knew that her biggest dream in life was not to find a knight in shining armor to sweep her off her feet but rather to take pictures of anything and everything, and the young woman would have an answer that would carry not even the slightest traces of uncertainty. This dream of hers had begun when she was seven years old, the very day being that afternoon when her aunt was to be married to her husband and the man that Lani would forever know as a Uncle Theo. She could remember sitting there on the bench in her parents' garden where the photo shoot was to be held since it was also the location of the reception. She could see even know just how happy her aunt and uncle looked, smiling and laughing and holding each other with all the love any heart could ever feel, and when the photographer had beckoned them to come and see the images he had captured, there just seemed to be a glow around her aunt and uncle as they scrolled through the images... As curious as young Beylani had been, she had risen from her seat and tugged lightly on the man's dress pants, asking him if she could see too. He had smiled down at her then, squatting and allowing for the little girl with tight blonde curls to see the "moments" he had captured. He hadn't called them pictures, telling the young girl that when there was so much emotion in an image it becomes more than a photo, it becomes a memory frozen in time for the eyes to see and the heart to remember. Even through all the years that had passed, the blue-eyed blonde could remember how captivated by his words she had been and how skillfully those photos, those moments had been taken and captured that just simply looking at them Lani could feel the love that each one portrayed. From that day forward, she had wanted nothing more than to be a photographer maybe even only half as good as the man at the wedding that day.

Part of the young woman's decision to leave her beautiful home in Willowhaven, the place where her entire family resided to this very day (save for her wayward uncle and whatever family he may or may not have started, no one really knew as he never wrote or called home) was to chase that dream of hers. There was so much out there beyond those protected borders of her hometown that she knew nothing about, and if she knew nothing about it then that had to mean that there was so much she had not seen and never would if she stayed there in that quiet little rural country town so far away from any big city or industrial land. If she wanted to grow as much as she could, if she wanted to even hold that hope in her heart to be a great photographer for all the world to see those moments she'd captured, then she had to explore that uncharted world beyond all that she knew and loved. Some may have struggled with the idea of leaving home, leaving behind loved ones, but Beylani knew that there would never be such a thing as a final farewell to Willowhaven. No, that day she had packed up her things and watched that country home of hers vanish behind the horizon as she set forth on her journey to Sacrosanct did not mean that she would never see her family again. When she had left, she had done so with a promise to visit when she could and to always write back home. She would not be like her father's brother, so lost to those that had only ever loved him that they didn't truly know if he was alright or if his wandering spirit had found him trouble and thusly a sudden end to a life that could have been long-lived if he simply would have at least stayed nearby. Beylani was moving many, many hours away but her parents and the rest of her small family were all only a simple call away, and when the holidays came she knew that she would be hopeful to go home for a few days to spend them with her family as any should. Yet in the same moment, as she sat there within that impeccable and almost strategically arranged office accented with various items that looked to be ancient in age, she had to remind herself that if this man saw her fit to hire, she might not be able to go home for the holidays. This was a relatively difficult thought, but as a young adult eager to make her way through the world and leave her mark however small and forgettable it might be, she knew that this was something that she had to do. She couldn't expect to live here in Sacrosanct without some sort of income, and her dream was still very much just that; a dream. Who knew how long it would take for her to reach it, but if Beylani had anything to say about it, she will get there. It's all just a matter of time, and she would hold fiercely onto her patience and faith that someday the world would know her pieces and if not remember her, they would remember those moments she'd captured.

His gaze does not waver from her as she tells him of the experience she had thus far in life, and as an ever so slightly simper shifts his chiseled features, she wonders what caused it. Was she making a fool of herself? Did he find amusement in that childhood memory of hers, or was it simply some sort of reflex reaction? In the end, it didn't truly matter but all the same she wondered about the man that she sat across the desk from. There is such a solemn air that is settled around him that she cannot help the curiosity at what he had seen in his own lifetime that might have sculpted and shaped him into the being that he was today. Ah, but then again, when wasn't the young woman curious about those around her - especially those that she has met instead of simply walking past on the busy streets of Sacrosanct? Baby blues watch as he seems to take in all that she had offered him, and when he poses another question carefully before her once again, she still meets his query with that radiant smile."I moved here to Sacrosanct because I wanted to see more of the world. I feel as though I had grown as much as I possibly could in my small hometown and I wanted to set out on my own journey to see where it would lead me. My passion is photography and I hope to one day become skillful enough to earn a name for myself. That is where I see one day being, but I also know I have a very long road ahead of me to reach that dream of mine and so I want to find something that I can also learn to love and be passionate about. It may take me five years, maybe even ten, but I will always be striving to be a well-known photographer though I will clearly need to do something else with my life to afford my stay here as well as support my dream", she answers him honestly. There was no reason she could see to hide anything from this man and potential employer, especially when she hoped that it would portray her determination as well as her eagerness to learn the ways of the coffee crafter. There would be nothing short about her time here if she could help it, certainly seeing herself working at any place that would take her for a larve number of months, if not years to come. She had always been completely driven and devoted to the tasks she'd been given in the past and her next job - whether it be here at Inner Sanctum or not - would be given that very same ambition and hard work.

She had not really anticipated the nature of his next question, but when his gaze finally strays from her own, those baby blues ignite with bright intrigue and curiosity as he spoke almost carefully, contemplatively of the city and the café, of how they were "unique". Of course Beylani would agree, but that was mostly because she hadn't seen anything like Sacrosanct. It was a big city and she'd never once been to a place like it, but as he continues on her curiosity only deepens. Supernaturals? She'd heard of them, of immortal beings that hunted the shadows, of creatures that appeared entirely human until they shifted by either free will or force under the light of a full moon. She'd heard of them, and as a little girl she had certainly believed them to be very real as most children did and yet also like most children, as she grew older and saw little evidence that they truly did live and breathe, she had started to believe them to be nothing more than folklore and fairytales. There was something in the way that he placed this question before her that was deeper than she could "see", and she is silently thoughtful for a moment."I know some things about them, though how true those things are I am not certain of to be honest. Witches, werewolves, vampires... as a child I always believed them to be real yet in all my short years I've seen little to suggest their existence. At least, in Willowhaven. But then again, my hometown is truly a small rural town of little more than a few local shops, pasture land, and crops tended to by those who work the rich soils there so there is much that I do not know as far as places like Sacrosanct, sir", replies the silvery voice of the blue-eyed blonde that remained there before him. She did not know what importance this question held, but there was something in those eyes of the man in his chair that told her there was so much more to this big city that she knew beyond the big department stores and endless web of streets. Some might have hesitated them and there, but Beylani only grew more curious by the moment as she waited patiently for his response, completely and wholly uncertain of what he might offer her next.
