East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

TRYING NOT TO WASTE MY TIME

At this point, Benjamin had too many siblings to count. Most of them had been sisters and most of them had been younger than him. Caroline had been the only one he was close to. He had thought his older brother had wanted to be close to him, but he was just using him. Paul had seen the way Benji, the dark headed kid with those wild amber eyes, had been able to slip through windows, unlocked doors and escape out of that house without an detection. His sneaking around hadn't been ill intentioned, but Paul though he could use that slyness for other means. Like, stealing video games from the store, or raided their parents alcohol stash. Benjamin had a gift for locks, in the sense that he could pick any of them with ease. It was easy once you got the hang of it. Benjamin thought he was cool, hanging out with his big brother, Paul would even invite him out with his friends. Paul smoked cigarettes, he drank, and he could get any lady he wanted. Caroline saw this and she saw that he was dragging along Benjamin with him. Caroline warned him again and again, but Benji was defiant. He didn't listen.

He really should have though.
But how was little Benjamin supposed to know that this one particular store had a hidden camera? How was he supposed to know that Paul would ditch him the moment the sirens started whirling?

Due to his circumstances, he was already instantly labeled a troubled youth, despite him not having done anything to actually land himself in the situation he was in. The cops looked at him like he was a criminal, which he was, he had stolen after all, but he didn't like the way they stared at him like he was downright evil because he wasn't evil. He was a kid, something he could see they had forgotten. After his parents picked him up and took him home, he confronted Paul on the porch while he was smoking his cigarette. "Hey man, you let me get caught," the pre-pubescent boy had said. Paul blew smoke in his face and smiled. "And?" He had said. "Dick!" Benji yelled in his face in the high voice of someone too young to have had gone through what he has, he slammed the rickety screen door behind him and flew the door open to the room he shared with another boy. Caroline found him and took him into her arms. Benji tried to apologize to her, but she didn't even let him get the words out, shushing him and saying nothing needed forgiving.

He would be lying if he said this was the first time a girl has approached him. Benjamin was a good-looking guy, he was athletic, and there was something about him that girls always felt a need to fix. Despite all the girls that had flirted with him at his locker, or swooned as he scored a goal, Benji would never consider himself a 'ladies' man', or a flirt, and certainly no Casanova. Honestly, he would not even say that he enjoyed the attention. He had a few girlfriends in high school, but they either deemed him unfixable, despised his brooding nature far too much, or he found himself suddenly becoming uninterested in a girl who had previously captured his attention. It was the natural cycle of things. And sure, there had been casual hook ups, he was a human after all, but despite any attention he has received from the opposite sex, you wont found an ounce of arrogance in that dark face. He was always justâ€"himself.

And perhaps it was just that characteristic that drew those girls in like flies to honey.
But it was that same little trait that also pushed them away.

Eyes that could cute through glass reflect her own puzzlement with his. She smiles though, and Benjamin, as typical, doesn't return the gesture. She had seen him before? Benjamin cannot deny what must be sharp observation skills. She shakes his hand with a soft hand yet a strong grip before he release his hold on her and returns his hand back to his side. "Well, it's nice to have a name and face to my admirer," he says, humor dry, facials unmoving neither into a frown nor an upturned crooked smile.

Cute? Did she just call him cute? And that was the reason she walked over to him? He finds Elain bold in her words, something Benji has never really been. He gives her a puzzled albeit shy look. Strange, despite the compliment, it was really a 'hit on' and his lip twitches upwards slightly, feigning the coming of a smile, but his face remains solemn instead. Benji reaches under the table and grabs his backpack, slinging it over his shoulder being careful not to hit the girl before him. "You know I was just headed to some office hours at school if you were headed that way," he says with a shrug and casual blink of those roaring amber eyes. "I take the bus, you could ride with me," he says, and as he says it he realizes his mode of transportation really is not the most glamorous, but really, he didn't have any other options. He couldn't exactly fake having a car. Besides, Benjamin was Benjamin and he never changes.
