Dareios watched cautiously as the girl's smile brightened across her face when he said her name, but he was careful not to visibly cringe. He didn't like how Anna-Marie made him feel. Despite his clear displeasure and attempts to stand up to her, they both inherently knew he was the one without power in this situation. If forced, the vampire mayor would have to bend to her will. Knowing this made him uneasy. When she describes his job in such a dismissing and blunt fashion, a barely audible clap of a laugh escapes from his lips, just a one syllable: "ha!" He wanted to pry further. He wanted to ask her if she thought she could do better. Had she not noticed the changes in the city's government structure? Under his leadership, young supernaturals could enroll in the city college and take classes at all hours on a 24-hour schedule now, no longer discriminating against those that were nocturnal. Under Dareios' guidance, law enforcement had changed their policies to be more understanding of the various needs of supernatural communities, including vampires, when it came to feeding and hunting. In return, Dareios prayed silently that most would play along. That the types like Anna-Marie would remain in the shadows and not cause too much of a ruckus to make headlines and throw a wrench in what was so far, a fairly smooth tenure. Dareios, in this moment, actually felt like he was making a difference. That this sacrifice of so many years without hunting and fighting against his more primal instincts, was worth it. He was changing the world, in this small way in Sacrosanct. But he saw no use in trying to explain that to her. "Yes, but someone has to do it." Was all he chose to humor her with in response. The vampire dug his balled fists deeper into the pockets of his black peacoat, and teetered uneasily on the heels and balls of his feet, his expensive leather shoes clapping dully against the damp sidewalk as he shuttled back and forth. He peered down at the girl as she continued, jabbing at him with more blunt remarks about his lifestyle, which she clearly didn't agree with. "Taught me what, how to bleed humans dry in the park at dusk?" He fired back. "I used to be like you once. I decided I wanted something more for myself, something better. To achieve that, it takes discipline. You should try it sometime." But she wasn't done. Anna-Marie continued on. And while Dareios had grown quite adept to letting opposers' viewpoints roll off him, he found himself getting more and more agitated the more she spoke. The vampire bit down on his bottom lip, eyeing her from behind his dark beady eyes and cocked his head to one side. "So what would you do then, if you were mayor, little girl?" He spat. "Enslave humans? Enslave the shifters? Why can't we all live together, in a calm and humane way?" Dareios Auerbach | Vampire | Vinyl |
