The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

While he appreciated what Malia was trying to do, her words didn't make him feel any better. He knew that Sterling had chosen him, even despite all that he had done. However, that was not to say that forgive himself for what he had caused would be an easy task. Every time he laid eyes on those scars, he immediately thought about the monster that he had turned into â€" the monster that had been pushed into a corner and felt trapped enough to fight back. Sterling was no match for the cat that lived inside of him. "Perhaps so, but I am not deserving of that love. I nearly killed him. I deserve a punishment, not love." It would take time before he would be able to truly accept the cat within. While he was making good strides, he was still not at complete acceptance yet. It would just take time, love, and encouragement for those closest to him.
He announced that he was finished eating, his appetite long gone after reliving that night once again. He apologized to her, trying to make up for the dim mood he had set for their meal together. She brushed him off, telling him that it was no big deal. She had been let into a very deep part of his life, something he had been far too ashamed of for far too long. "I can't burden anyone else with shit like that. It's one thing to wallow in my own sorrow, it's another thing to drown someone else in it as well." He hadn't wanted to burden anyone. However, there were certain people who deserved to know. Most of his pack knew â€" well, Tetradore and Raven knew. He wasn't sure if Tobias would understand. That man was still a mystery to him and he was still learning to trust each of them. Tobias just wasn't there yet. Perhaps in time he would know. Perhaps, even, Raven would let her lover in.
Once the waiter had taken his credit card and handed him some to-go-boxes, he was quick to load all the leftovers into the box, listening softly to what Malia was saying. She tried to say that Sterling was better off with him. He couldn't see why. "Sometimes I wonder if Sterling is better for someone else..." He closed up the box, locking the food inside for Malia to take home. He paused a moment before he looked up at her. "What we did in my hotel room â€" I cannot even get that intimate with Sterling. Every time I see the scars I caused...I lose my desire." He paused again to take the credit card from the waiter. He signed his name on the receipt and stood from the table.
After he and Malia had left the building, he paused along the corner of the sidewalk. "I love that man more than anything. I want to give him all of me. But Malia..." He paused as he looked down at the sidewalk. "Something holds me back and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get past that. Sterling deserves more than empty words and promises. He deserves that intimacy that I cannot give him. I want him to have that...even if it's not with me." There, he had said the words he feared â€" Sterling was probably better off with someone else. No amount of love that he could ever give Sterling would erase what he had done.
