if these wings could fly for the rest of our lives
Abigail was oblivious to the fashion in which the excitable young woman so managed to disarm the often frigid businessman. All that had occurred to her was that her bestest best of friends had asked her a question - one she should answer truthfully and concisely. Well...she was still working on that concise part of things. She could hardly help the pride that filled her features as she admitted, with measurable glee, that she had merely sniffed him out! Like it was easy peasy! Well, at least to her it was. Abigail was quick to notice the almost wounded look upon his face and in response, she was equally as fast in her efforts to assure him that his smelliness was really a good thing, as peculiar as that might have seemed. After all, Abigail liked the smell of sandalwood. It was all...woodsy. Her hazel eyes watched as that uncertainty slowly eased the way to contemplative thought, only for the man to appear relatively...okay with the idea. Yay! Success! His gruff tone hardly fooled her in the slightest. He likkeeedd that she liked his scent! She knew it! His admittance that her favoring of it was the only thing that mattered only served to bring a bright grin to her features. Seeeeee!
Abigail was oblivious of those very feelings that seemed to assault him, the girl instead bounding ahead to burst out those glass doors into the welcoming embrace of the warm summer sun. Ahhh! This was where she belonged! Outside in all this gloriousness! She glanced back at her friend, that grin only increasing as she watched even him exhale deeply in all that freshness. She knew the air would be good for him! Poor man. That's probably why he was always so grumpy, being stuffed in that giant tower all the time. Maybe she'd bring him some plants so his office didn't feel so icky. Yeah! That sounded like a great idea! She'd seen like...indoor...planty...walls before. They looked awesome. The girl nodded quite firmly at her own inner contemplations before she skipped at his side, quite exuberant in all that she did. She was oblivious to the way his gaze seemed to linger upon her and her russet colored locks. That is until his comment produced a giggle upon her lips. That nearly musical sound seemed enough to prompt some resemblance of a smile on his features. Maybe just a littttlee bit! Admittedly, it rather pleased her to hear that soft breath exhaled from his mouth. He was capable of enjoying himself after all!
Abigail's hazel eyes turned to face the world head-on, her inquisitive gaze eyed ever person they passed in a brief glimpse of curiosity. Her attention deviated towards the man at his side and yet, his question only prompted a baffled look from the young woman. "What do you mean?" She inquired, her eyebrows furrowing. "I have burdens too I think, don't I?" Abigail's gaze turned upwards as she contemplated it before the girl shrugged ever so slightly. "But it's okay! Because I have youuu and all my other friends to help too, right?" That was, she was certain, what friends were for! Or what they were supposed to be for. Admittedly, she'd never really had that good of friends, to begin with, but being an intelligent foreign child in a third world country tended to make it difficult to bond with the local children. This time though, Abigail was certain things would be different. This time she kind of sort of fit in! And she had already made good friends so that had to count for something, right?
Fortunately, such contemplations hardly lasted long upon her mind, however, as they came upon the very park Oliver had promised her. Abigail could hardly help the giddy gasp of awe on her lips. The park was absolutely WONDERFUL! Not to mention the very DUCKS she saw drifting upon the surface of the man-made lake. DUUCCCKKKKSSS! Abigail ignored that sigh upon Oliver's lips, just as she too seemed to quickly move on past his assurance that they had arrived, that very glee all but filled her as she so demanded his attention. He clearly failed to see the wonderfulness that came with those winged fowl, the man merely content to eye them as if they were just another feature of the park. Like he saw them ALL the time. His comment upon making friends with the ducks brought a gasp to her lips as she immediately turned to face him. "REALLY? You think they'd be my friend?" She inquired, clearly quite taken by this idea. How COOL would that be to have a duck friend come and visit her whenever she came to the park?! She was going to have to come more often. What did ducks eat?! Did she even have something she could feed them?
It was only natural that, when given the chance to pick whatever spot she desired, Abigail chose the closest table next to the ducks that looked the cleanest she could muster out of her choices. She was too excited in her view of the ducks to notice those pigeons, that is until Oliver pointed them out to her. "Hm?" She inquired as her gaze followed the man's own. Her nose wrinkled at the very sight of the pigeons. "They're....kinda....gross...." Abigail admitted at the sight of those overweight birds with their almost boring oily looking colors. "You've eaten a duck before? What's it taste like?" She inquired as she settled on her side of the picnic table, waiting for the man to join her with her bag in tow. She reached out for her bag, pulling out those dishes all over again only to present Oliver with the very food she had both promised and tempted him with. Yum yum yum! She was, admittedly, getting kind of hungry too...just a little.
