He seemed quiet as they walked, but she was sure on some level he had to know she kept glancing at him. It wasn't like she expected anything from him. She didn't know a lot about the whole dating and intimacy thing herself, not besides what she learned from Henry. Ashton didn't outrightly act like he didn't want her to look though so she took that as a good sign. What else could she take it as? Eventually they started talking and that was probably for the best. She told him about Nadya and how she was in her pack and he said that he'd met her and her kids on the beach and how they'd been fascinated with his surfboard. Her brows furrowed as she tilted her head. "Surfboard? What's that?" She still had a lot of things to learn about the human part of this life and all the things in it. There was so much she still didn't know. He seemed to have had a good time with Nadya and the kids, if his smile was anything to go by. It made her wonder if he liked kids, was one of those guys that pictured himself in ten years with a doting wife and five or six kids running around. It was probably a nice thought for some. She just wasn't sure it was in the cards for her. He brought up something called surfing and how he was going to teach the kids. She nodded when he asked her to tell Nadya where he lives, though her expression was still quizzical. Her voice was soft as she looked back up at him and asked. "Do you think you can teach me too sometime? How to....surf?" She was sure she said the words right but wasn't sure how he'd feel about being alone with her in the water. Sure, they'd played in an arcade all night and went skating but maybe bathing suits in the water was asking too much of him. She didn't know where the lines were with him. This was all new territory to her. He seemed impressed as she named off everyone she'd gotten to know in Sacrosanct so far. She still felt like there were so many more people out there that she should get to know. When she asked him about girlfriends though, it was obvious that she'd taken him off guard. She couldn't help but wonder if he was more like Killian, so she brought up homosexuality. She couldn't help but feel a little sense of relief though when he cut her off quick, saying it was forbiddin by his religion. She still didn't understand this religion or what it had to do with who you like but she knew better than to argue about it so instead she just nodded. "Okay." Then he said that he had girlfriends but admitted that they didn't mean anything. She furrowed her brows, knowing he couldn't mean that he didn't like them at all or anything. Ashton didn't strike her as the kind to date someone without being at least attracted to them and wanting to get to know them. He was genuine. He had to mean that he didn't love them like Henry loved Sterling. He said that they thought him plain and religious. She scowled and shook her head. "There's nothing plain about you, Ashton. You're just different, but that's not a bad thing. In fact, I think that's what makes you stand out. The right kind of people will want to be around you because you are different. Those girls were crazy to give that up." She shook her head as she looked ahead to where they were walking, secretly wishing she could compile a list of these girls in question and she'd give them all a piece of her mind. That was the protective friend side of her coming out. She'd like to shift and add in a bite just for good measure, too. |
