East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

The white smoke of the cigarette wafted like flames around his lips, curling into the cool night air before slowly fading away. The ashes glowed and died, glowed and died - burning as he stood over the ledge in silent contemplation. The heavy 'thunk' of the metal door behind him seemed to rouse his attention and with a slight shift of his weight and flick of his fingers, Animal glanced over his shoulder to land to a solid grey stare on whoever planned on joining him tonight, if however... briefly. Somewhere in the back of his mind he wondered, with a hint of irritation, what the odds were of being disrupted tonight by an undesired presence. A wary security guard, was it? Perhaps a disgruntled janitor? Unlikely, though... not unlikely enough. What else could possibly require his attention at this peculiar time of the evening?

Ah...

Her presence washed over him like a fresh gust of wind, those stoic grey eyes of his trained on the lithe little Fae as she completed her silent approach. She seemed entirely un phased by the presence of one of her own, and though Animal found the interactions between Fae oddly... charming, they were often just as disturbing and fleet. That was how most encounters with those of the Wild went - it was how most wanted it to be, and for good reason. They were untrustworthy; dangerous. Unseemly, perhaps, to those of the courts... yet it was surprising how often Animal found himself in the company of those who claimed to have more civilized morals than himself. ...If you could call them morals to begin with.

Still, it did not change the fact that he was now dealing with one of his own species. Fae were an entirely different game mode and there was a subtle shift in those eyes of his. A mutual understanding - not for this girl in particular, but a truce - an acceptance as to what she was and what she might be capable of, and perhaps if she was smart she would recognize the same of him. Though normally Animal could humor a chat or two she'd caught him in one of his darker, brooding moments atop the city building. A risidule aura expressing this seemed to linger about him as he studied her, somewhat irked by the fact she smelled of alcohol. Not strongly, and yet... it remained.

Animal's eyes flickered briefly towards the cigarette hanging between his fingers when he realized that this was to be the topic of discussion, and with his gaze drifting slowly back to meet hers he brought the smoke back to his lips and inhaled deeply; perhaps, maybe...considering. It was unfortunate.

"I do not rescue damsels in distress," Animal breathed out evenly, slowly, as if he might be explaining something of mild importance. Often there was a bite of indignance to Animal's words, a condescending factor he rarely held back from others; yet this time there was a rawness there - a painful, blunt honesty of someone who had long ago accepted just what, exactly, they were. "Though I am often the one who puts them there."

Deeper meaning or not the male Fae nudged the discarded, empty carton of cigarettes on the ground with his foot in her general direction as if to prove his point and gave the smallest of shrugs. Not quite an apology for not having anything to offer her, but it was surely the closest she was going to get.

have you no idea that you're in this deep?
I've dreamt about you nearly every night this week
