The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Satan's children? I found myself choking on whatever retort I may have formulated and instead of words, a gentle laugh bubbles from my lips in reply to his declaration that he and his kind were ungodly creatures. My older brother would have agreed vehemently, nodding with a speed that might have impressed police speed radars. I had never been entirely sure of what made the man possess such an extreme dislike for the species, but that didn't stop said dislike from existing in a rather large space where he treated it with love and care, allowing the dislike for vampires to flourish. "At least you accept your fate and live up to their expectations." His remark about flossing as well as chewing on bones elicits yet another laugh from my gently glossed lips, accompanied by a gentle shake of my head as I quite obviously appreciated the humor that filled his words. Did vampire teeth even need flossing, or were they too immune to human decalcification and plaque? The thought wasn't something I had intended on dwelling on, but with his flash of a smile I found my eyebrows knitting together as I attempted to get some kind of answer together for the question I had posed to myself. Once it was finally relegated unanswerable without audibly asking whether or not vampire teeth generated an actual need for flossing, I was at least able to offer him a handful of words to show I was still engaged in our banter, regardless of whether or not my mind was millions of miles away in some supernatural dentistry land. "I've heard that fairy bones are the most efficient, but cat bones are a close second. Are you sure you aren't craving Cat Du Jour? There is a diner close by that has a delicious Cat Burger on special, too. Your choice." As a follow up from my previous questions, Damon begins to tell me in a fairly patient tone that vampires do eat food though it doesn't taste nearly as good as it did when they were living. Okay, that's fair enough. Nodding as if I accept this answer, I have a moment to mull over just what I think of said answer. Part of me feels challenged, as if I might attempt to create some kind of dish that might appease the vampire's tastes... could you cook with blood? Now that was a task that the kitchen of the Witchery might lend itself useful to completing, and with a bit of a mental checklist started for a recipe I follow him towards the appropriate location where we might be able to locate some kind of food. And though a flush runs it's pretty pink tones over my generally bare cheeks, I manage to remove it's traces relatively quickly as I find myself feeling more secure around the vampire, especially when he lets his guard down enough to show my inquisition patience as well as the hint of humor that sneaks back into his voice when he explains that he is rather pleased to answer my questions, if only to be able to retaliate later. That much I could assure him of, and so it is with a competitive smirk that I nod. "Perhaps food hasn't tasted good because you haven't tried my cooking, yet. I've heard blood makes a fabulous seasoning, but I have to ask... If the blood comes from a different race of a human, does it taste different?" The thought brought a quiet snicker of a laugh into the air, a sheepish but good natured expression befalling my features as I nod once more, showing him I'm alright with his own questions. "Now that, sir, would only be fair and I am a good sport... Usually." |
