The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Rolling her eyes at his cheeky reply, she couldn't help the way her smile softened even as she shook her head. It was a strange sort of beginning, between newspaper ad and a hope for structure, a clear definition of the way this world had started to shape itself into her life. He still reminded her of something feline, and perhaps, subconsciously, she knew he wasn't entirely human. Then again, he hadn't shifted and tried to eat her yet, which, comparing to her other experience with Sac's were population, was a vast improvement. "Smartass," Muttering under her breath, ducking back to the counter to grab her own coffee and pour him a cup of hot cocoa, knowing the muffins weren't quite as good without it, she drifted back to the fireplace and offered the mug to him. Emily had come back to the front, and Avi decided that she could spend a few minutes with her roommate before the afternoon rush began. Settling on the bench next to the fireplace, she wrapped long fingers around her coffee, quirking an eyebrow at him. "So now we're supposed to have house movie nights and dinner parties? I warn you, my cooking skills are pretty limited. However, I can pick up the phone and order a pizza, or Chinese. Whatever." His investigation of the chair reminded her of her own reactions to new furniture, the couches at the house having been extensively tested before she'd chosen a corner, now marked by her favorite pillow and one of her blankets. The chair in the shop though, had also undergone testing and it was a personal favorite. Her choice of the bench, however, was a reminder that eventually she had to get back to work, and the mild discomfort of the bench would at least keep her awake enough to still functional. His question drew her attention back from the mental drift, a sort of reprieve from the focus on coffee and the difference between soy and almond milk, brows furrowing as she thought about it. "I'm not on my own, persay, but I imagine I'll have some quiet shifts where they hope I don't burn the place down..." Still smarting about her lack of ability with the candles, Verily shifted closer to the fireplace, trying to internalize the warmth against the chill she was feeling from outside. Serafina had suggested that witches had affinity with all the elements, but even as she was drawn to fire and sunlight, things like water always made her cringe. Despite the black sweater and jeans she was wearing, Avi still felt cold, a shiver creeping down her spine, almost causing her to spill her coffee. "I can't believe you came over here just to hang out with me though..." She wasn't sure where their friendship would go, if even it was a friendship that was starting to blossom. He was careless and naive, innocent in a way she'd probably never been. They were a study in contrasts, and though she was certain that if she wandered into his room, she'd be annoyed by the mess and clothes thrown everywhere, it rarely spilled over into the rest of the house. She didn't know if that had been the case before she'd moved in, but the trend towards neatness in shared spaces wasn't even worth complaining about. "I didn't think I was all that interesting, especially at work. I'll just have to keep bribing you with muffins so that you can help me stay entertained for a few more hours until I'm off." There were plenty of customers who already got on her nerves, and too shy to share her observations with her coworkers, she wondered if Ian would appreciate the humor with which she could characterize people. "Did you want to grab a pizza tonight? I don't think I want to go out anywhere in this rain..." so let me take this medicine, to quench my love for violent things |
