The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

She was finally able to start to relax! Business was not 'booming', but her rent was paid for another month and she was able to fill her freezer with frozen foodstuffs and her pantry with dry goods that would keep for a long time. She could get by on her own for another month and a half, two if she begged the landlord for an extension. Her pockets padded she was able to indulge! "Small hot chocolate, one shot of espresso!" There was no possible way to keep the eagerness out of her voice. "Do you want whipped cream in that?" Her smile faltered for a moment. Whipped cream was free, right? It was only the espresso that was 80 cents extra. "Sure!" Shit. Well, why the hell not? The barista punched in the order. Soft brown eyes watched the total calculate itself and she breathed a silent sigh of relief. Whipped cream was apparently free. "Would you like to join our loyalty program?" Amaya stared at the barista now. Her clothing was classy, a pair of jeans and a men's shirt that clung in places that proved her sex, but bent her gender along with a sweatshirt for warmth, but all of it had minor holes here and there after years of use. All that appeared newer was a felt bowler hat that rested above her brown eyes and a pierced left eyebrow. She was clearly not someone who could claim loyalty to a place that charged five bucks for a cup of hot chocolate. Flicking eyes up and down her attire, the barista seemed to absorb her silent answer and continued the transaction, after she carefully counted out exact change, but left a dollar tip. She knew how much tips were appreciated in the world. Giving away a smile, the dancer twirled over to the delivery table and waited for her drink. Once it was in her hands she slid into a table and chair outside. The autumn air was cool, crisp and pleasant. Particularly in contrast to the warm drink flowing down her throat. Occasionally a soft breeze ran through her wavy auburn hair, which she helped out a little with a smile. Her lip piercing clicking once against the plastic lid of her cup, she took a deep inhale of the chocolatey scent, savoring the feeling it gave her before setting it aside (though looking at it with a face of longing). She reached into her bag and pulled out numbers and charts. Glancing over her personal budget, she pulled out another couple of papers with estimates and prices. She clicked her lip ring against her teeth and studied the figures. Free-lance helped keep her afloat, but she desperately needed stable work. With a sigh, she put the papers back and pulled out a file. Occasionally sipping and enjoying her hot chocolate, she set to work on a project a local business owner had commissioned her for. The sooner she could get it done, the sooner she could take on the next project. |
