The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

The festivities tonight are quite lively. Everyone seems to be in a good mood. The streets are lined with vendors and game booths and some small rides. Children seem to be having just as much fun if not more so than the adults as they race around giggling. The air smells of cotton candy and sweat as allt he bodies crowd against one another. It's almost disgusting when you think about it but then all I can smell is the blood racing through everyone's veins. Their heart beats are racing with adrenaline and excitement. New couples are here making out and giving into their most lustful side in the back alleys and I can smell their anticipation. I lick my lips, wishing I could taste it. But tonight I'm trying to be on good behavior. I don't want to draw attention to myself, not yet anyway. The woman on the bench seems so innocent, the way her blue eyes travel around the scene playing out before her as if she's a child herself seeing the festival for the first time. You wouldn't think from looking at her that she's anything but alive, not judging by the lack of breath in her body and the still heart in her chest. She giggles along with the children as they race by as if they're playing some sort of harmless game with the vendor who chases them down. They'll probably grow up to rob banks and shoot people who stand in their way but who wants to think about stuff like that? She doesn't seem to notice at me first, but when she does, she tilts her head at my comment as if confused before looking back at the crowd. She exclaims that a prize sounds fun to which I smirk and nudge my head toward the booths. "Which one holds your fancy?" I ask out of curiosity. I can see the way her eyes brighten at the thought of holding one of those prizes. No matter that she could easily walk over and just take it and only a fool would try to stop her, or a hunter, but instead, she seeks one the old fashioned way, by winning it. How intriguing. She says that she's only watching the activities for now and I snort softly. "Watching is only half the fun." I respond. I watch her gloved hand move back to her lap, noticing the strict way she carries herself, much like woman used to do in the 40's. I miss those days sometimes. Then she asks about myself and I look back toward the crowd before answering. "Looking to enjoy myself and find out what this town is really about." My eyes glitter with eagerness to do just that. Something tells me she's not usually so curious about others. She almost seems like the shy type. Something about tonight must be giving her a little extra confidence then. I'm almost waiting for her to introduce herself but it seems my wait will be in vain so I return her smile and watch her fidget before I add. "I'm Damon, by the way." I hold out my hand, bowing as I do so. I remember well the old fashioned greetings where the man bows and takes the woman's hand, kissing it gingerly to show her value before he returns it to her. I figure a woman such as this will appreciate such things. |
