Exhaustion tugged at her body. She had spent her day touring Malia around the city, buying her a new set of clothes and finding her food rather than returning home to sleep before her evening shift. Miya had hardly more than a couple hours under her belt before she was walking into work, already exhausted. To top it off, the hospital was oddly busy tonight Miyako didn't even have time to break for her lunch. In reality, she would have slept on her break, but now she was running up and down hallways, retrieving items for her doctor she was interning for. She had even spent the last two hours in an emergency surgery session and morning still felt so far away.
The last several nights she had been sent home early due to how slow it was, now she was sorely missing those evenings. The girl didn't complain, she continued on with her duties even when she thought she might fall over. "Miyako!" a soft voice called down the hall after her. Halting mid step, she turns on a heel to face a willowy older woman quickly walking towards her. "Hi Anne, what's up?" She offers a small smile. She had a soft spot for the older woman, she had been the one to introduce her to her internship duties and had taken her under her wing when she needed help.
Adjusting the paper work she held against her chest, she pops a hip out to take her weight off of one of her feet. "You haven't taken lunch yet right?" the woman asks, smiling apologetically as she halts in front of Miyako, placing a hand on her shoulder gently. Miya gives a brief shake of her head, "We can't give you your full hour right now, but go take 30 minutes. If it slows down I'll come find you and let you know you can take your full hour," Anne says gently before she turns away and she's racing back up the hall.
Mi smiles faintly after the older woman, a soft sigh escaping through her lips before she quickly turns back and drops the documents off with the receptionists. So much for a nap. Hurrying, she finds herself in the breakroom, snagging her sandwich bag and a black coffee, she swiftly finds the exit propped open in their breakroom, allowing the cool air to kiss her face. Finding her favorite bench on the side of the hospital, she takes a seat, groaning in delight as her weight is finally off her feet. She's tempted to remove her shoes and rub at them but one look at her lunch box and she had forgotten how ravenous she was.
Placing her bag on her lap, she unzips it and fishes out a sandwich. Leftovers from her tour with Malia. Unwrapping it, she tears into it, devouring the food in seconds. She was thankful there was no one around to see her eat tonight, she didn't typically eat like such an animal, but tonight was different. Tonight, she didn't have the time to dally. Still, she sighs as she rummages through her bag, she had almost forgotten to pack anything at all for her shift. Fishing out a granola bar, she nibbles on it contently, leaning her head back against the brick wall. Reaching for her coffee, she takes a sip, hissing at the temperature as she roughly sets it back on the bench.
Again, that sigh emits from Miya's mouth as she continues to nibble on that granola, enjoying that cool air. Thirty minutes was not nearly enough time for a break but she would do without that extra half hour, at least for tonight.
