It's not the long walk home that will change this heart, but the welcome I receive after the restart.

His fangs were only visible when certain senses were heightened. It was difficult to explain, of course, to mere mortals, but when a vampire's predatory instincts kicked in it was quite difficult to contain those urges. As Dareios held Miya in his arms, he could physically feel the adrenaline coursing through her veins. He could feel her heartbeat The warmth of her skin coupled with the deafening thud of her pumping heart, well, it was dizzying. Even Dareios, the vampire of model discipline, couldn't contain himself. His fangs emerged and his body told him to take her, however he wanted her, if only for just a second.

The mayor breathed deeply and swallowed hard as he released her from his grasp, waiting for the all consuming sensation to subside. Eventually his fangs retracted, and were no longer visible or protruding. He was certain Miya had picked up on this primal change in his demeanor. So when she asked about his fangs, he was embarrassed, but not wholly surprised. Dareios stiffened, but raised a hand and ran it through his disheveled locks. "Hurt? No." He responded curtly. There was something about the way she regarded him as a "friend" that stung a little, but he tried to let it go. "I'm sorry if that troubled you... It doesn't mean anything." He lied. His beady stare lingered over her, over the smoothness of the skin at her neck and he felt the sensation begin to bubble in his gut again. He wondered briefly what she tasted like, and suddenly, he was salivating again.

This time, Dareios put a staunch hold on these emotions just in time. He cleared his throat and followed Miya obediently through the doorway. If the doctor hadn't invited him in just moments ago, he physically would not be able to pass through the entryway. Another bizarre trick to vampires - Miya could rescind her invitation to her home anytime he'd be barred physically from ever setting foot in the building again. But it hardly seemed like the appropriate time to bring this up now - not after he revealed his fangs to her.

He followed her into the damp hallway and up to the entrance to her personal apartment. Dareios listened to her story about how she ended up here, but mused there was more to it than she was letting on. Nevertheless, he sympathized with her. "Rent prices sure have skyrocketed," He affirmed. "We've been trying to find a way to address affordable housing here for years." He couldn't help but feel like his was offering nothing but empty commentary. "If I can ever help you Miya, in lookin for an apartment, or whatever else, I do hope you will let me know. I'd be glad to." He offered with a smile, and simple and short-lived touch of his cold hand over her arm.

Dareios retreated as Miya moved to open the door to her home. The apartment was small and dark, but charming. He could feel her presence all over it. That alone was enough to make it feel homey to him. He settled into the barstool she offered him silently. When she offered tea, he smiled politely, even though he knew he couldn't really stomach it. He'd drink it anyway, as he'd forced down coffee and other human indulgent beverages in the past. Funny how he'd come around to acquire a taste for wine, but seemingly nothing else.

The vampire listened to the heater drone on, knowing well the sensation was lost on him. But if it made Miya feel better - he wasn't about to tell her otherwise. He watched her quietly as she moved about her kitchen, admiring the way her long locks cascaded down her back and how delicately she moved even in such a tired state. When she joined him at the table, he smiled sweetly to her, taking the hot cup of tea but not moving to bring it to his lips. Instead, he focused on her words, happy to hear what she had to say next. "How lucky was I, to find you sleeping with my business card on a damp park bench." He said with a short laugh.
