North

Within the Northern vicinity of the city, the wealthy gather behind meticulously trimmed hedges and high-class architecture. The pristine streets are paved with stone and the storefronts are brightly lit and inviting - for the right clientele. In the North, every establishment is eager to cater to the rich and the wealthy. Many such places are used to the sometimes peculiar requests of the otherworldly but here there is little that money cannot buy - whether it happens to be illegal or merely involves looking the other way. Vampires and Dark Hunters are often found upon these Northern streets, their long lives often contributing to their sizable wealth which allows them the luxuries that the North provides.

This little dive bar was nothing fancy, but it had a killer karaoke night. She had seen a few record producers come here from time to time, looking for Sacrosanct's next big thing. And so, Emmy had made sure she was always here singing and dancing. Who knew? Maybe she'd be discovered by someone great. Maybe she might actually find a way out of the hell of a life she lived in. Being homeless sucked. Taking showers in truck stops, buying leftovers from couples leaving restaurants. It all sucked. Just once she wanted to have a decent job that paid well.

As the lights dimmed, there she stood at the mic. Normally she liked a ballad with her guitar, but tonight, she was going to shake things up...literally.

Taking a deep, cleansing breath to breathe away the nerves, her song began to play. Shakira's Hips Don't Lie came across the speaker and then she began. Hips shook in beat with the rhythm of the song. She sang her heart out the best she could. Just maybe, someone would notice her.

But when the song finally ended, a few cat calls from drunk patrons was all she heard. As the house lights came up, she didn't see an agent. She didn't see the one person who could help her make something more of her life.

She signed, trying to fake a smile as she stepped off the stage. Sliding into one of the seats at the bar, she looked up at the bartender. "Hey Joe, I'll have my usual." Her usual wasn't much, just a splash of vodka with some cranberry juice. It was the cheapest drink next to water. But Joe always had her back, he sometimes gifted her a drink or two. Tonight, it was a double shot of vodka in cranberry juice instead of a single. She slapped a few bills on the table before taking the glass to her lips and sipping on the drink as she listened to the next drunk karaoke singer stand up and sing Justin Bieber. Yep...this was the life.
