We're all rotten, buried and forgotten,
Living it up underground
She pounded against that door like she was teaching it a lesson of some sort, executing her agitation with the world at large. It was clearly written upon her feature, a common look that the Spitfire wore. That was until the door opened to that familiar face and that odd contraption, her hardened expression easily melted away. Sterling was not someone you could be easily pissed at, he was always likeable which not an easy feat with Harley. Apparently, he was just as surprised to see her too as that wide-eyed look sprout across his face, as though she caught him off guard. Perhaps he wasn't used to people banging down his door at 6:45 at night. Despite the reasons she was lured over here, she certainly welcomed seeing a familiar face and glad it wasn't him with the poor taste in music.
People had an uncanny way of leaving her, but she couldn't really blame him. Her life was nothing short of complicated, to say the least and she was glad he got out of the line of fire before things got a little hairy and that was an understatement. She was happy to let him off the hook of taking off because she simply couldn't forgive herself he got caught in the crossfire of something her convoluted life brought on. She was the kind of woman always elbow deep in shark infested waters. Hell, danger seemed to nip at her heels no matter how quickly she moved to escape it. She was not truly a runner, never one to really avoid a fight even when the odds were against her. But this kind of danger you had to avoid, there was no way of winning. She had lost the advantage with the monsters so very long ago, but it didn't mean she had to stop fighting. Or maybe just maybe she could be very difficult to find. Those thoughts, however, are far from her mind as she stood just outside of Sterling's apartment.
The black-haired man explained what that odd contraption was and where he had bought the thing. There were some people that could sell dirt to a poor person and in this case sell an orrery to a man who clearly was in need of something that money couldn't buy. That woman at the market was a greedy bitch feeding off the man's weakness. "Sounds to me like you got scammed. We should pay her a visit and get your money back.. But it does look cool, in an if I was stoned, I could look at it for hours kind of way." She smirked admitting rather bluntly.
He then apologized for leaving and she shrugs. "It's ok, everyone tends to leave for one reason or another." She didn't exactly lie, there was not a single person that stuck around even if they did venture their way back in eventually like human a boomerang. She wasn't the most liked thing on two legs, perhaps that was the reason she was going to stick with. The very person that continuously showed up was an unwanted and a psychopath vampire stalker, but that was a long story she would rather forget. Not to mention her ex-vampire whatever he was, was also in town, her mind still reeled with their last bump in.
Her life had an odd way of functioning, even if most wouldn't call it functioning and more along the lines of dysfunctional. At least it kept things interesting. "But it's all forgiven buddy, I had to skip town soon after too." She admitted almost grimly. Some shit was better left unsaid. Yet it was impossible not to notice that he seemed like a mess, even worse off than her at this very moment and that said something.
Sterling invites her in, mentioning something about not minding the mess. "Please, I spent most of my time with you destroying stuff or working in the shop on my car, I wore more grease than clothes. You know a little mess doesn't scare me off." In truth, very little ever did. Ace and Harley, the dynamic duo walked into the man's apartment that looked very similar to her's except for the excessive amount of plants scattered all over the place and well his stuff was everywhere and unorganized, how very unlike him. She didn't say a word about it but she knew something was very off.
Ace took his time getting up, sniffing Sterling with his cold wet nose, clearly remembering the scent of the man, wagging his tail he licked his fingers and whined. Surely he wouldn't mind the old beast-like dog crossing the threshold; it was very obvious he wasn't going to cause any trouble in his old age. "How do you stand that racket next door?" She raised a brow her gaze landing upon the man, she didn't dare ask the tough questions, at least not yet, they were entirely too sober for that. Despite still looking as youthful as always, he looked like hell and walked strangely, as if he was in a face-off with an oncoming train and lost. She peered around the apartment and she could not remember anything about the man being cluttered, something was obviously so very wrong. So maybe this impromptu visit was much needed, for both of them, more than they had ever realised. "..and maybe you can tell me what is up with all these plants?" Harley asked almost deviously, allowing an idle hand run through her dog's thick furry coat.
