Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
Why he didn't just tell her to jump off the balcony onto the floor below or something was beyond her. She would have much rather done that than be exposed to this staircase of death that everyone else seemed so confident about. Frost himself even stepped onto it without worry, only glancing back at her as if surprised for a moment as he went down it. Didn't he know that she didn't trust something that took away her control of her own body? She knew where to place her feet and the idea that something else beyond her control would be moving her feet for her terrified her. She tried to save him from it but he didn't seem to have a care in the world about it. When he got to the bottom, he looked up at her as if waiting and he seemed for all the world like he could wait there all day but she had to get up the courage to do it. She paced and she could have done that all day if not worried that he would eventually grow impatient and leave her. At that point, she probably would just jump to the bottom and risk getting hurt. She finally managed to get her foot onto the escalator but didn't think about putting her other foot on there too. She flailed about until she grabbed the railing that was moving too, not at all thinking about the people around her that were either laughing or whispering about her. She could hear them and she curled her lip, glaring at any who dared to meet her gaze. It helped to deter most of them and terrify them to silence but she was still a magnet of attention as she held that railing for dear life all the way down. When she saw the floor coming, she panicked momentarily, somehow seeing it as a trap that was going to suck her in right under the floor and she would never find her way out again. She leapt from the moving stairs and found a pole to cling to, her gaze seeking Frost and finding him looking decidedly agitated as he stepped toward her and crossed his arms. He explained to her that it was called an escalator and that people get it on so they don't have to walk. He told her that she shouldn't put her fingers near where the steps get sucked into the floor and that she shouldn't jump from them either. She scowled at him, slowly straightening next to the pole. It did help a little that he admitted to being scared of them too but she wouldn't admit that out loud. She crossed her arms too. "Well I'd rather walk, for future reference." She followed him toward the smells of food, her mouth already salivating by the time they got to the table. When he told her to sit, she might have put up more of a fight but she caught that authority in his tone and somehow her body refused to disobey. She sat with a hmph noise in her throat, merely glancing around at the humans and trying to see what they were doing. She noted that a few of them were using those strange tools with points and rounded edges to eat but she didn't understand why they didn't just use their fingers. Wasn't that what they were for? When Frost came back with the food, she didn't need to be told to dig in. Survival was all about getting what you need to sustain yourself and since he seemed to have his own food already in front of him, she didn't need to wait her turn like in the pack. Not that she was ever after anyone but Caesar himself when it came to food time. She tore into the chicken once she got the taste of it. It was delicious! She didn't even notice the tool he was telling her to use until there was nothing but bones on her plate and she was even eying those. It would give her something to chew on and there was probably still plenty of flavor in the marrow. Then he told her that she had to eat differently as a human, that she had to eat like them. She frowned and looked around at the humans, watching them eat in distaste. "But..they eat so SLOW." She knew she sounded whiny but in this moment she didn't care. Survival usually meant getting your fill as fast as you can, unless you plan on tearing off a leg and dragging it off to eat elsewhere. Maybe then you can take your time. But here they're expected to eat in front of everyone else. How does he expect her to take her time like they do? Someone could easily walk by and steal their food right out from under them! As if to prove her point, she watched a shifty fellow she had been eying in a gray hoodie suddenly snatch up a bag next to a woman and take off running. She jumped up and yelled after him and a few other humans jumped up to give chase. She snickered and looked at Frost. "Seeing? Being too slow has its consequences. Survival of the fittest." She wrinkled her nose as he stabbed the lettuce with his own "fork" and put it to his lips. She sniffed the air. It didn't even smell appetizing. Sure, she would eat berries and fruits and stuff but that just smelled gross. He told her that he had eaten meat before but it made him sick. She smirked and leaned back in her chair. "Sounds like you have a weak stomach." She emphasized the word weak as if to goad him. She liked teasing him because he was a herbivore and most of the time he seemed to take it all in stride. Of course, she would never say no to a rematch on their spar. She was still convinced that he had cheated. When he finished his salad, he asked if there was anything else she wanted and she looked around before shaking her head. There wasn't anything she could think of and she didn't want to risk another trip on those escalators so she was much happier with leaving and going home. She stood up and turned toward the nearest exit. "Sounds like a plan. The door to outside is on this floor, right? No more going upstairs?" She glanced toward the escalators warily. |
